Limit your spending. This means aviod buying keys that won't return there value, figure out what skills work and go with them, and use expert salvage kits on armor drops that are only important.

Keys can get you nice items later on but sometimes they're runes of hammer mastery. Items off the ground that are for your prof are lots cheaper.

If you you have a few attack skills for a weapon or spell group and a self heal or two you don't need to buy everything at the skill trainer.

If your really wanting to save money only use expert salvage kits on armors after they've been IDed. Be right next to the run trader and see whats of value and whats better going to a regular merchant. One last thing only buy a regular ID kit and the expert slavage kit since your paying more for less uses of the same product.

As mentioned, farm.

Try to find a build on wiki or here on guru and overwork him.

Hell, before the SB nerf, I solo'd Ghial countless of time. (Typical Mo/E wiki build)

There was a boss here in Nightfall that didn't attack (Zelnehlun Fastfoot(?)), I easily solo'd him over 100 times .. hell, probably 150+ times. Unfortunately his longbow only dropped maybe 10 times for me.

Also good about solo farming is anything in gold (money) you get in full, rather then 2-man or bringing henchies that "split" the money.

Also found paying attention and knowing the going prices of stuff people sell is good.

A green might be worth 90k, someone that doesnt know or wants to get rid of ti may be selling it for only 40 or 50k .. well buy it turn around and sell it for the 90k that it is worth.

You're not far enough into the game to be able to make good $$$. Keep playing, and progressing through the game, it'll come.

Yeah, a 30 gold drop is something approaching the middle of the game. In the last few missions/areas of prophecies, every gold drop is 100-110ish.

But the best way to make money is to get the end of the game, and sell (good) stuff that drops to other players. Most of the people in your stage of the game offering big money for things have already beat the game, and then moved money to a new char.

Some tips:

-Identify everything before you sell it. Sometimes this can double the value.
-Sell perfect mods, items
-Farm greens
-Farm in general
-Limit your spending to necissary skills/items. In other words, don't buy EVERY new armor while you're going through the game. You can get pretty far on lower-level armors. Use collectable weapons instead of crafter items. Etc
-Or, if you have absolutely too much time on your hands... Buy low, sell high.

Without farming, and only selling items to merchants (not players) I've netted 20k after expenses thus farm in Nightfall and I'm not that far percent-wise. Careful use of your money, luck and time will net a good bunch of cash.

*Play miser. Limit your spending. My mesmer wore her pre-searing armor until I reached the town where I could purchase 15k Enchanter's. You just need to be smart about kiting and the lack of armor won't really matter. Use collector's items and mods you find yourself. It doesn't matter if they aren't perfect. They still improve the item and you can overwrite it with a better one when you find it. Buy the least expensive rune set up you can. This might mean running 2 majors (at a 100g each) instead of a superior and a minor. You'll still have 15 in your main attribute (rune + headgear), but you'll save money and have 5 more hp.

*Play merchant. Sell the rares, good purples (hero food!) and greens that you find. Especially in Nightfall. These can earn you a quick buck and you can purchase the item for yourself later after the price plummets. Also sell the perfect mods that you find. Use the "1 off perfect"s for yourself and the "1-2 off perfect"s on your heroes. Don't buy every skill you see. Use a solid, proven build and buy only those skills. You can play skill catcher after you have a financial base of operations.

*Play farmer. You may need to farm a less than ideal area while you accumulate the cash and items often needed to fund a specific farming build capable of running a high quality area. (MM with a monk hero is fast, cheap and easy. One hero does get half the drops, but half is better than 0 when you are just starting and need to fund characters and better farming builds and saetups.)

*Play trader. Buy low, sell high. It works just like the stock market and takes a savvy player with a lot of market knowledge.

There is also collectors armor. If you find out what items collectors want to give you free basic armor it's a good, and cheap, way to keep your character armored up. I got so bored of buying 1.5k armor in Kaineng Centre only to buy Kurzick or Luxon later on that when my Necro (4th Character) went through the game she got collectors armor and it works fine...you just lose out on the bonuses.

Another thing I would say to save money is don't salvage unless you actually want what you're going to get off the item. If you're salvaging a cape and WANT the cloth, that's fine...but otherwise sell the cape to the trader as it is, it will usually be worth more this way. If something is Highly Salvageable this can often be worth salvaging...sometimes if you get a "Highly Salvageable" sword you can ger 5-6 Steel Ingots off it, which are worth more than selling the sword itself to the trader...just use your own judgement.

My way to earn money: Play the game, salvage all drops and once in a while empty material storage to traders. Everytime I empty it's about 10k.

This is where I am and what I'm doing. Nets me about 1k per day(as I am only getting 10 gold per drop maybe. The only problem is that I Identify first and if it says it will sell well to trader then I NPC it.

I net about 1.5K a day just by doing quests and slaughtering everything around. Selling off items and materials help. Don't take henchies if you can help it. Heros are helpful cuz they don't take funds for helping (least i don't think so). have a few characters going and toss all the funds in yout storage you'll notice it starts to add up.

Yup, my necro ran around Kaineng with -60 dp turning stuff in to the collectors. My mesmer (Tyria) I didn't bother because the AI was dumber then. She was rarely targeted if I was positioned well, so her lack of armor really wasn't a liability.

I always suggest not buying a lot of armor. When i first played prophecies, i bought my necro armor every time i get her to a new town that had it, mainly beacuse i thought it was cool. I will say though - definatly don't stay in your starter armor, buy armour at the first town you get to, its pretty cheap and will help you get through until you can get max armor.

Definatly dont buy keys until the drops are worth it. Salvage/Identify things - pick up everything that drops - even if its only worth 12 gold, eventually things that arent worth that much will add up.

And farm. Although Anet is apparently against it - look up farming builds and places, farming has always been how i get the majority of my cash.

Good luck

Yes they do. In fact, there is a thread discussing minions taking gold too - they may have fixed it by now though. But heroes and henches are supposed to share in the loot.
