need a melee build
Dutch Masterr
im looking for a good melle pvp build that can take on a warrior or sin. im thinking of something with tainted flesh, sever artery and gash, and maybe get poison in there as well. ive seen some necros kill tanks easy in close combat, including me, so i know it can be done =)

Melee Necros are as a general rule, kinda sub par. If you're looking to just go after warriors/sins, try an illussion Mesmer.
Thom Bangalter
they're not sub par, they're bad. They work in Ra merely because everything can work in RA.

dude dont listen to those guys. Try to find your own mellee build. I came up with one to solo ettins using MoP and a axe its kinda slow but it works. you should do the same just invent your own build. Oh when somewhen says its not good dont listen, just show them wrong.
LightningHell
Go into a middle of your favorite mob, wave your crystalline around and /stripdance.
But seriously, a Necromancer isn't built for melee'ing.

Yes, because soloing lv. 14 Enemies clearly shows enough promise against lv. 20 players.

I do admit that mellemancers aren't that hot soloing but a good touch meleemancer in a group is ok. But the problem is getting into a group because people think that meleemancers are wimpy and most people wont even give them a try.
Effigy
I can't understand this "don't knock it until you've tried it" argument people always try to use. I don't need to literally try everything when I have a working brain that helps me reason things out.
As others have said, a melee necromancer is not the best idea. Sure it can work and might be kind of cool conceptually, but if you want a powerful build I'd recommend steering clear. Assassins have a hard enough time surviving in melee range and they have better armor and defensive skills.

Well I don't have a meleemancer build but they can't be that bad seeing as how Necro Raiders runs a meleemancer, or they did, and they are/were in the top 100 for a couple of seasons. He was used as a spiker with soul leech, the axe attack that gives deep wound, mark of subversion and some stuff like that.
A good weapon would be sword since the main attack chain is sever, gash final thrust and it doesn't require an elite.

I run something along these lines in Random Arena from time to time. It's just for fun, but it's not too bad in RA. As others have said, while they're cool conceptually, Necromancers aren't meant to melee.
Soul Reaping: 4
Curses: 14
Swordsmanship: 9
Tactics: 11
[card]Hamstring[/card][card]Sever Artery[/card][card]Plague Touch[/card][card]Healing Signet[/card][card]Spinal Shivers[/card][card]Parasitic Bond[/card][card]Defensive Stance[/card][card]Resurrection Signet[/card]
Basically, go after casters. Throw Shivers and Parasitic Bond on them, Hamstring them and cover it with Sever. Because most players in Random Arena suck, they tend to panic and you can hit pretty much any skill they try to use for a while.
If people go after you, the high tactics with Defensive Stance and Healing Signet will help.
Again, don't go in thinking you're going to slay with this sorta thing, but I find it fun, so maybe you will too.
Ninja edit to state the obvious: Use an Icy Sword.

Here's a saccer build rather effective... in RA.
N/El
Equipment: sword +5 energy with +20% enchant (really needed, especially for BS).
blood focus + 30 health.
Blood 10+1+2
Death 10+2
Soul reap 8+1
Rest in Fire.
Skills:
Rez signet
Aura of the Lich (E)
Dark Aura
Blood Renewal
Burning speed
Plague Sending
Dark Pact
Touch of Agony
Your most important skills are AotL and DA.
BR and BS are used as cover enchants, one heals when it ends, the other burns.
Send back burning from BS and other conditions with plague sending, if possible on a clumpered group so you deal long aoe burning.
Alternate with DP and TA to kill quickly a target.
Always have AotL active! Cast it with DA before entering the fight to save energy.
Pros of this build:
Nice Self Healing
Nice armor ignoring damage and aoe burning.
Cons:
Massive enchant removal will ruin your day (such as Gaze of Contempt/Avatar of Grenth/Rend enchantments)
Energy will become quickly an issue if things don't die. So, kill. Use a zealous sword as alternate.

No, listen to me. Meleemancers are terrible. Your best bet is to bring death nova and keep it up on yourself so when you get wtfpwned you'll actually do some damage.
Apple
Thom = truth. 60AL at touch range is NEVER ok, except maybe in a blackout push, but that's about it.

I gave it a try. More than a year ago. I've sinice learned how to actualy play this game. With that knowledge is included that Meleemancers suck.
