Ok I predicted that nightfall would be in the top 5 for sales. I am right on the money with that. I also bet they will be top 5 for a few months, un like factions.

well take a look they are now number 4 with never winter nights 2 at first place.

just take a look at gothic another rpg game it is at number 5

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/index.html

like I said before it comes down to better rpg! this what makes the game so good

this proves my case about pvp vs rpg and factions

Well i will agree but some will probably agrue that its perhaps too soon to tell since its only been barely a month since Nightfall release.

What would be interesting would be how will Anet take this into account for making the next and future chapters?

Will future chapters despite Nightfall success be everything it is not? for example:

Be more PvP focused?
Force players to depend/interact more with each other?
Make areas exlcusive to only certain portion of the gaming population?
Short and rushed story?
Bad voice acting and cutscences?
Make HA 8v8 and remove Heros participation?
Alienate the concept of Heros and not make new ones for future expansions?
Basically a clone of factions again....?

Will Anet give in to Whinners and make another factions clone? Only time will tell.

I don't think anet will make another factions. I think you will see sale strong for aleast 2 to 3 months, maybe more.

However I think that anet really needs to make better end content other than farming. like i have said beofre like mounts, homes, ships, charits, jobs, racing and better freedom. Yoou will see this game really take off.

For pvp make huge battles with mounts, ships and epic

I also think if they ever do it, you will really see this game take off.

Mini games are fun. But no to homes and jobs.

I have a home and a job.

I want to play a GAME, not play Second Life.

It does not prove anything, especially considering most GW PvPers thought Faction was a horrible game. The added PvP games in Faction is something most GW PvPer never took seriously (thus the lack of many top PvP guilds participating other than to waste time).

Hey, dreamhunk. Almost everyone hated Factions. That means PvP too, but you wouldn't know that since you post stuff about them when you really don't read any of the PvP sections.

it is a different way of playing, making different ways of playing the game. it is what a game should all be about. It makes for better rpg

to the rest of the pvp posters, I am not a big fan of the pvp so I would not know. the fact never winter is top spot shows rpg's rule!

better rpg makes for a better game play

Which is interesting because they already have that way when they had the Elite Mission Event. Put the NPC's back in Kaineng Center and be done with it. It was a horrible idea to tie endgame content into owning the capital cities in the first place. Well, not so much the idea, but the shoddy implementation of Faction and town control pretty much sealed the deal on that being a bust.

I'm all for variety in gameplay. The Dragon Arena was fun.

However, mounts, homes, ships, jobs, racing, and "better freedom" (jumping?) are NOT what Guild Wars is about. You have to look at the core design of the game and add features based on that, not add features because some other MMO has them.

Pure and simple, Guild Wars is about skirmish-level combat. The total focus of the gameplay is combat. It's set against some pretty backgrounds, but regardless of what the "world" looks like, ultimately your interaction with it is based on combat.

Every skill is a combat skill... not fishing... not horseback riding... not bread baking...

If it doesn't include combat, or some effect on combat, then it doesn't have a place in the game.

Except for towns, every map area is a combat arena. A "dungeon" if you will, even if it is outdoors. Towns exist as launching points into those combat arenas.

I suppose you could add "fishing" to the game... what would that mean to the gameplay? You don't need food. Just stand there idle for 20 seconds or so.

Horseback riding? You have instant map travel.

Jobs? Go get one.

I think Guild Wars is doing great for the type of game it is and the market is is catering to. It doesn't need EVERY computer gamer to play it, nor will (or should) it appeal to every kind of gamer out there.

Guild Wars should do what it does better than everyone else, but the game is diluted if it tries to be something that it is not.

Most complaints I see on these boards are from MMO players that expect to get the same experience that they got in WoW or EQ or whatever. GW is a totally different kind of game. Perhaps it's not for you. Give it a try on its own terms and you'll either like it or hate it. Either way is fine.

Though I thought Factions was a bit of a disappointment over Prophecies and ultimately Nightfall, I think there are bits and pieces from Factions that everyone tends to like. I particularly find the best thing about Factions is Alliance Battles. I don't consider it PvP, but it IS fun!! This is may be one of the driving forces that is actually keeping Factions alive. I think a lot of people also enjoy some of the armor in Factions over the other two chapters. As far as skills and content goes, it may have been a let down, but hopefully they will learn and make the changes when the 4th chapter comes out (since it should be the same dev team that made Factions).

You, Sir, summed up what I was going to say. He wants GW to be a WoW clone.

Dreamhunk, if you want WoW, go play WoW. I like my GW just as it is

Theres only one real RPG type for me. And thats pen-paper RPGS (or in the case of modern RPGs, email/chatroom) with a GM.

Video Game "RPGs" can never have the same freedom and character growth you can create in a pen/paper RPG.

They just pretend to give you freedoms.

Guild Wars doesnt even pretend to give you freedoms, they restrict you heavily. "You can play here." The End.

You know why?

So the PVP system is balanced as it can be.

The only problem with the original post...Gamespots ranking that you are looking at is based on how many people have viewed that game. Doesn't matter if its reading the articles or looking at the screenshots.

It just so happens that for a while one of the number one games was actually the lowest scored game ever on Gamespot. It was horrible. But the only reason it was number one, was because EVERYONE had to look at this stupid game.

If we got enough people together we could make anything a #1 game.

lol factions pvp orientated.

lol.

Did I mention lol?

Nightfall (and more specifically the chapter wide changes before) did more for pvp than factions ever did (yay, some random arena maps I can only play with idlers on a pve character, joy!). Unlock packs, templates, huge amounts of pvp gear without re rolling. So asside from unleashing the ridiculousness of motivation paragon's into the game nightfall pvp>factions pvp.

As for the PvE, shocking as it may be I played through factions with five characters back to back, two of which were brand new, and another half way before replacing with another, I have played through nightfall once and then had no will to play through it again.

"However I think that anet really needs to make better end content other than farming. like i have said beofre like mounts, homes, ships, charits, jobs, racing and better freedom. Yoou will see this game really take off.

Yeah, and then kiss goodbye to every current pvper to something better while all the PvErs go and play WoW because it will be the same game.

Please for the love of god stop mentioning factions and pvp focused in the same sentance unless those two terms have "was not" between them. thanks.

Why not include crafting then? Some people who want to do something other than farm might enjoy it, it would possibly improve the state of the economy, and it's directly related to combat.

Well, it's related to combat as long as you use weapons to hit mobs over the head with.
