The Build I used Entirely Through NightFall
Kyosuke
I've been seeing alot of people who have been complaining abotu how "hard" nightfall is on certain missions and how it's just impossible in some aspects. I found this funny because I didn't have any trouble at all. I played with Heroes/Henches throughthe first part and then played with Groups from Gates of Desolation until the end. All quests I did with Heroes and Henchies still. Anyway, here's my build which worked wonderfully throught he whole game and I didn't change it once.
Spiteful Spirit
Suffering
Life Siphon
Desecrate Enchantments
Shadow of Fear
Conjure Fantasm
Cry of Frustration
Res Sig / Sunspear Res Sig
This build worked excellent for me all the way through and groups went down fast.
I'd ALWAYS cast Spiteful Spirit on the Monks or Mesmers first. Typically the Mesmers to get rid of them quickly. All casters seem to stay together for the most part, so SS was very effetive and My heroes/henches would aggro into the iddle ofthe group, so everyone would always get hit.
Suffering is always a good second cast to get the majority of enemies started on Life Degen.
Cry of Frustration used on any Elemenalists you're up against and also anytime you have Rangers/Warriors with annoying healing spells.
Desecrate Enchatments to take off anywhere from 64 - 100+ damage depending, VERY effective at times. Will strike all enmies around the one you target.
Shadow of Fear I rarely used and you could probably replace, but it IS very useful against those enemies who want to jump around alot.
Conjure Phantasm was used mostly as a great quick way to finsh enemies off AND also as a counter to Troll Urgent and other similar spells. Quick and Effective most of the time.
Life Siphon, easy Degen/Life gain for you. Good to cast on Monks/Bosses to help them along in their death.
Res Sig / Sunspear Res Sig - Obvious
~~~
Anyway, I hope this might help some other Necros out there looking for a good build to use in Nightfall. I had no trouble with Gates of Madness either which I know alot of people do. One shot in and out for that mission I've been very pleased and I hope someone else can be too!
Why not replace Shadow of Fear with Reckless Haste?
Kyosuke
It's a good suggestion, though I found since SS wasn't being casted on Melee enemies, Shadow of Fear worked better for slowing down the annoyances. But RH could work too, I just didn't find the need for it, as the casters actually spell cast/attack very quickly as is.
I have a similar build to yours except i run inspiration magic instead
spinal shivers
arcane echo
SS
power drain/leech signet
desecrate enchantments
reckless haste
spirit of failure
I too find that your attributes a re a bit too crossclassed.
However it's still your choice and if t worked for youy then so be it.
I've been using a heavy degen build myself... Mainly inspired from an AB skillset
Life Transfer
Life Siphon
Conjure Phantasm
Phantom Pain
Etheral Burden
Vamp Gaze
Shadow Strike
Res Sig
Attributes
Blood Magic: 14
Illusion Magic: 12
Soul Reaping: 9
Basically i prefer Res sig over Sunspear Res signet coz it brings you back with 15% more energy.
Which for casters is a vital element imo.
You mentioned yourself that the monks/mesmers remove hexes so that's why i got both Phantom Pain and Ethereal Burden
Getting either of these removed results in a benefit.
This seems to have done the trick for me pretty good
take out Life Siphon; stick in Mark of Pain. wonderful damage dealer; take points from blood away, same with Domination, you only want the interrupt, not the heavy damage -> boost your soul reaping & illusion if you want, just stay away from blood & dom imo. the degen you'd get from suffering + conjure should be equal with 10 already, and it cant go higher than that anyways, so no need for life siphon; its a crap heal anyways.
I would only use inspiration from the mesmer side since curses already offers skills of the same effect without spreading your attributes too thin. Take out Life Siphon for Parasitic Bond. If you're using SS, as other people have said Reckless Haste is much more effective. Suffering is ok I guess, but 2 bars of degen isn't worth 15 energy in my book. I would much rather replace it with Arcane Echo and throw out more SS's. Conjure Phantasm and Cry of Frustration seem out of place in your build. If you're taking SS, you should be relying on that to deal your damage and maybe a couple desecrate enchantments to help your foes on their way. I would either go inspiration and take inspired hex and power drain for energy management and some hex removal, or blood for awaken the blood and blood rit/another direct damage spell. I think 3 skill lines are the most a character should spec in so your attributes should be 16 curses, 10 soul reaping, rest in blood/inspiration.
Thanks for the constructive criticism/input on the build While appreciated in all aspects it's not a build I would change. Simpy because it has worked very well and I haven't had any problems taking down any groups at all. Even facing full groups of mesmers, while it can be a pain at times, they've been easily/quickly subdued with the right moves. It has worked especially well i the RoT for me, which is a big plus in my book. I've doen a few field tests in RoF missions in Tyria as wel and it holds up agains the mursaat/Jade as well. So where teh criticism is seen as helpful in some aspects, it's hard to change what is actually qorking swiftly, if you knwo what I mean Groups go down quick and easy, and I like to keep it that way
All you need is sunspear rank level > 2
Drop phantasm and life siphon, bring Arcane Echo - buff your soul reaping.
Arkantos
Drop illusion magic and put into SR.
Lets Get to Healing
Attributes are way too spread out.
*shrug* if it works for you, ride it. I see a lot of problems with this build and I know I can never run it. Everything from choice of skills through choice of attribute split.
