Iam the leader of a new guild. Also a realatively new player. At the top of my guild window it says Rank N/A.
How do I get that to change. In other words how do I go about getting a Rank for my guild?

you need to enter the guild battle (gvg).
you will need 4 real people and 4 henches (that's why you only have 4 henches in your guild hall) to start the gvg. or simply have 8 real people.
one advice to you is, be prepared before you get in.

The Guild Rank is based upon your guild's rank when participating in Guild Battles. Your guild rank is determined by the number of wins and losses your guild has over the ladder season. The more wins you get, the better your rank will be. You'll also receive a better ranking if your guild defeats a guild with a better ranking than your own than you would if your guild went against an unranked guild. I hope that made sense. If your guild rises in the global ladder ranks (into the top 1000), your guild will be displayed on Guild Ladder which can be seen on the Guild Wars website. Definitely a good accomplishment.
Since GvG is an 8v8 event, you'll need any combination of 8 players, where you must have at least 4 real players from the participating guild. The other 4 players may be other guild members from your guild, alliance guild members, and/or heroes/henchies. The top ranked guilds prefer 8 real players due to communication and teamplay. The vast majority also use some sort of voice communication such as Ventrilo or Teamspeak to communicate while participating, so if you don't have either, i would recommend getting a server.
GvG is also where you will find a lot of the most elaborate party builds. I mean this in a way that don't set up your build with just your character in mind. Think of what your guild wants to focus on and try to incorporate skills that will compliment other people's skills as well. It's a TEAM effort. I think all would agree that a BIG chunk of a guild's sucess in GvG is communication.
But anyways, if you want to change the N/A to an actual guild rating, get some of your guildies or alliance members together and start participating in some GvG. It is a lot of fun and one of the most satisfying accomplishments for a guild in Guild Wars.

Rating is like a score. It goes up when you win, and down when you lose.
Rank is the comparison between ratings of your guild and everyone else's.
If you enter a battle, with rating 1,000 and no rank, and you are paired with a guild ranked 50, just remember: their rating could theoretically be only 1,001.

Thanks for the great advice,
Is there anyway to just practice doing GVG before we get into a battle with other people where our rating is affected?

well there is always a skrimish against each other in the guild. Whats your guild anyway?

Yup, it's called an unrated battle.
The only downside is that there is no (to my knowledge, haven't checked in a while) random pairing for unrated. You have to set up the battle with another agreeable guild ahead of time, rather than just form-team-and-go.
Our guild hasn't done an unrated (or rated for that matter!) battle in ages. But we can probably scare up some peeps for some fun games, usually weekend is best if you all are interested.
If you like, pm me and we can try to set something up, IGN: Sofi Anguissola, Leader, The Black Hand Gang
