Hi, i'm having trouble finding the correct build for my ranger/elementalist PvE character.
Currently i'm having attributes spent in the following attributes:
Expertise, Markmanship, Beast Mastery(not much), Wilderness Survival and Earth Magic(not much).
My build set that i'm leaning towards:
Apply Poison (preparation)
Distracting Shot (interrupt)
Savage Shot (interrupt)
Whirling Defense (stance)
Ward Against Melee (ward)
Troll Unguent (healing)
Charm Animal (pet)
Comfort Animal (pet)
My questions are: Is this to diverse? Should i drop some attributes/skills? I really like Apply Poison, Distracting shot and Savage Shot. Is there an other secondary profession that complements this better? What elite skills can be used?
Thanks for your input :-)
Roy

Look at QuickShot for an elite if you like to spread the "love"...
Melandru's Shot if you like +dmg and possibly an energy buff...
Sliver Armor is a good defense in the Earth Magic line...
I like "Obsidian Flame" for a spike...
These are my choices; but really you need to play around with your skills and see what YOU can play well, not what everyone TELLS you that you can play well.

It looks like you are currently spread throughout 5 different attributes. While I would suggest you leave wards to eles since they can usually keep them up continuously with higher attributes in earth and have better energy management for high cost spells, if you enjoy running it, drop the pet. While a pet can be useful with no attributes in BM, I've found that having a pet for the sole purpose of tanking generally does not do a whole lot of good since it takes up 2 skill slots and disables all your skills when it dies. There are a lot of good secondaries for a ranger depending on what you want to do with your ranger.
If you do want to run a pet, I would suggest you drop some skills and invest a little bit into beast mastery. The BM line has been beefed up quite a bit over time and there are several good options there. You could always replace one interupt for Disrupting Lunge if you want also. While it's not the most reliable interupt to pull off since it only triggers when your pet attacks, it is very spammable and has a nice skill disable effect for when it does interupt.
If you want to protect the back lines, you may want to consider laying down a trap or two under your casters to discourage enemies that go for them (since I assume your build is for PvE). A well placed dust trap can blind and damage enemies, often sending them running from the squishies in your group. If you do this, just be careful not to place your traps too far away or fleeing enemies might pick up extra aggro, but I have generally not found this to be a problem.

[skill=card]Troll Unguent[/skill][skill=card]Disrupting Accuracy[/skill][skill=card]Distracting Shot[/skill][skill=card]Savage Shot[/skill][skill=card]Punishing Shot[/skill][skill=card]Dust Trap[/skill][skill=card]Barbed Trap[/skill][skill=card]Resurrection Signet[/skill]
This is a skill set for the purist who wants to be a killer interupter. I used this build when I brought my ranger to nightfall. All ranger, all the time.
I place traps first,then use Disrupting Accuracy,then open fire. I use Acolyte Jin as my wing shooter(awesome when she follows orders) Her build is;
[skill=card]Troll Unguent[/skill][skill=card]Keen Arrow[/skill][skill=card]Apply Poison[/skill][skill=card]Savage Shot[/skill][skill=card]Crippling Shot[/skill][skill=card]Forked Arrow[/skill][skill=card]Dust Trap[/skill][skill=card]Resurrection Signet[/skill]
Poison/Crippling all around. Interupting the casters, a dual ranger kill team if I do say so myself,and I do

Sir Mad
I agree with Archon concerning the ward and the attributes.
A few things bug me with your build:
1/ There is no rez: rangers generally last longer than most of the other classes in PvE and there won't necessarilly be someone else to rez your teammates when things go bad.
2/ There is something lacking in the offensive part of your build. You have 3 skills: 2 interrupts and poison. I think you should include at least one spamable bow attack (instead of the ward for example) or even remove 1 interupt and bring a second bow attack.
3/ This is maybe due to the fact you're not far enough in the game yet, and if so you'll be able to fix that later, but you don't use any elite. Elites of choice for this kind of build, IMO would be: Poison Arrow (so you could replace apply poison by another preparation: Kindle Arrow would be a candidate of choice), Burning Arrow (combined with apply poison you have a max degen on your ennemies, or use Read the Wind and Screeming Shot instead of poison for the extra degen), or even Punishing Shot which combines interupting and extra damage (then you'd have a marksmanship oriented build, while with poison arrow it could be either WS or marks oriented, depending on your needs).
