Anti Farm for chests?
Sooty
I haven't done much in the way of chest running for a while so i thought i'd have a go. Just got 24, yes 24 consecutive purple margonite chests in a row. No exaggeration. My party members however got plenty of golds. I was several treasure hunter ranks above them so i'm wondering if this is simply a case of the new system simply showing just how horrible it really can be or some kind of chest running anti farm?
BTW the number above may in fact be higher, I never actually got a gold to end that bad run, I simply ran out of keys.
I gotta say this system really takes the fun out of the whole chest thing :/

Stupid question but arent chests the same for everyone i.e. if a person opens a chest and its gold for him then it will be gold for everyone?
So if thats still true in NF and your party members are getting golds, you should too.
(Havent done any chest runs with peeps in NF)

It was until Nightfall came out, now everyone has a chance of getting either a gold or purple when they open a chest. What i'm wondering is whether this chance differs depending on your treasure hunter rank or something because even before when I ran alone I never had 24 in a row that were purple, that's just rediculous.

I'll do you one better. Fifty margonite keys, nothing but purples. That was after getting dozens of golds in Vabbi and a fair amount in Desolation. I haven't been doing chest runs, but I opened every chest I came across while questing, mapping and capping elites. All in all I opened almost 200 in Nightfall so far and it sure feels like I'm suffering from diminishing returns.
Sooty
My god i thought I had it bad. Now i'm scared to buy keys :-o
You reckon it's just bad luck or perhaps a glitch somewhere that we should be raising with support? Perhaps it's Margonite chests specifically.

I've played with people who got several golds from Margonite chests. Either I've had an incredible run of bad luck, or chests suffer from an 'anti-farm' nerf nowadays.

I think anet are making golds rarer, before chests crapped out golds all over the place and most were junk, but now the golds you get are higher quality.

But why are some people getting them at normal rates of say one every 2-4 chests whereas others go for 24 or up to 50 before getting a gold?

I honestly get more golds in a 7 hench party then I do with chests. Since i started NF I got about 4 as random drops and 2 from chests. I'm convinced that Vabbi Keys should be changed to Purple Vabbi Keys.......

I really think it's a matter of 'chest farm nerf'. Here's why I think it is: I took my time playing through Nightfall. First I made a paragon and played it until well into Kourna. Then I got a bit scared: I had a bit over 300,000 experience and hadn't died yet. I decided not to risk death yet by playing through areas I never played before, and took my main character to Elona to 'scout ahead'. I systematically mapped every area and capped every elite with that character. Either character never opened a chest until Vabbi. What that all boils down to is, I played many many hours without opening any chests at all. When I started to, the results were amazing to start with (Vabbi keys) but as I progressed, the relative number of golds dwindled and dwindled until it hit rock bottom. It sure feels like 'chest nerf' to me.
Then again, maybe my luck is just rotten.

hi all
i agree gold items are rarer now, but saying they are higher quality i desagree completly...
200 chest only 1 req 9 a spear the rest of the few golds i get are of very high req and i get more golds from core items then from campain items...
and yes some silly purples better then some gold...strange i think server forgot to dye in gold the letters from some items...
the drop rate are equal in all servers ? cause some ppl say they are happy, others unhappy... dont now ...

I just find that the gold drops have been put through a blender. I get my perfect casting mods on weapons (like hammers...not something semi useful like a sword or axe) and my 15>50s come from my staffs. I have no idea why anet decided that staffs and wands need 15>50 mods on them, but from my experience, the further you get in the game, the harder it is to get golds from chests (easy kournen->vabbi->desolation->torment hardest). Maybe this is their way of saying dont chest run in the end game areas?
Bankai
Maybe it's the fact that you're farming chests. So far I've been having a handful of keys with me while travelling through desolation/realm of torment, and I've only gotten a few purples. A few golds were pretty bad, but I also got some quite good ones.
MDeshame
207 keys from Vabbi onwards, no chests opened prior to Vabbi keys. 189 purples in a row, 1 gold drop (req 12 non-max poor mods), 10 purples in a row, 1 gold drop (req 10, near max, pitiful mods), rest purple. I'd say that constitues a pretty shitty RNG.
I got more gold drops from killing than from opening chests. Regardless, unless my luck is abmismal, the weapons are shite, the req are way to high, there appears to only be 3 skins that drop and it appears that there are only 5 weapons types.

I average about 1 or 5 on Gold vs. Purples... Most golds though are req. 12/13... and alo of the times the mods aren't even maxed out, I open Ancient Elonian and Margonite chests... not so good really. I have found some decent stuff, but when I do get a req. 9 it's not even inscribable sometimes.... It has mods that aren't max and you can't even throw a 15^50 on there... now that's just messed up

running this at the moment. love doing 200dmg =)

but IMO I enjoy the Vibbian chest more then Margonite.
Avarre
I've gotten about 50% gold from Margonite chests (100~ opened), 15% gold from Vabbian (200~ opened). Both started at a higher percentage and have lessened. Had a fair range of reqs on the weapons as well.
Doesn't seem too bad to me, but I do notice that drops become more commonly purple the more chests I open.

My experience:
Used around 15 Margonite keys. All used in Nightfallen Jahai. The first 3 chests I opened were all gold, and all purple after that. Since I been running the same place repeatedly, I do think the anti-farm code is at work here.

If you're farming LB points off Margonites, you should try alternating by only opening chests every other run. Sure you might not open as many, but you could see if your gold percentages go up.
Ranger Rog
I don't buy a lot of keys, I usually just rely on drops or I will sometimes buy a single key before heading into a new area for the first time. So far in NF I have had about 70% golds from 10 or so keys, mostly merchant fodder though.
Enchanted Warrior
Instead of buying keys, give the same amount of gold to a new player. They will have better uses for it, and you will get a good feeling where as if you use them for chests you'll be p-o'd roayally for the rest of the day
In other words, dropping the amount used to buy keys in the wilds or giving it away is way better than wasting it on chests.

I wouldn't dream of giving gold to starting players! What, bereave someone of the sense of accomplishment they might otherwise feel upon 'getting there' on their own merit? That's not the kind of guy I am.

There is definitely farm code on chests. Rank 6 treasure hunter here. I had a better average running chests in port sledge than I have had doing all of nightfall. It started with the dreaded antifarm update.

Alright rather than flame about maths, can anyone else post to say whether they are experiencing what they feel may be anti farm or diminishing returns of some kind when opening chests?
Count to Potato
couldn't they make a anti anti-farm code for some of us who like to be lucky in a while with my highy regarded 115 chests open (none from chest runs) not one item i have either used or sold for a small profit moderate profit or considerable profit, most have been my source of misery
Hysteria
I don't believe it's a player based anti code for chests but just an over all process. Most of us noticed very good chest drops at the release of nightfall and for a short while after. Now after the chests have been releasing good quality weapons and mods into circulation I believe a point has been reached where the release of the same quality mods and weapons is being slowed as to not over saturate the market. I also believe this was predetermined from the start and is playing out like it was meant to. This is only my opinion though but I believe it's a very valid possibilty.
Molock
I get more golds killing level 17 monsters than I do opening chests in desolations... pretty sad when you think of it
KoalaMeatPie
Same thing, 25 kurzick keys, 2 Gold Drops.
Sooty
If a dev sees this thread would they mind letting us know if there is a system whereby the higher your treasure hunter rank, the worse your gold drop rate from chests or something similar? thankyou.

Cottage Pie
the new chest system, random drops, is frankly dreadful and makes chest farming kinda...pointless, and the title a pure money sink. I too get purples mostly, ratio of 5:1 i reckon.
