Well there goes my Survivor title...
MorpheusDV
Kodonur Crossroads.
285,016 XP into the title.
Lag spike, which was NOT caused by my internet connection.
Thanks ArenaNet
There goes about 40 hours of work I put into this character this week. I feel so "blah..." right now that I don't want to play Guild Wars anymore.
EDIT: Exaggeration... right... here's proof.
RIP my dear Ranger

40 hours for 285,016 exp? I think you're exaggerating a little bit. Did you start over multiple times?
I've lost my survivor title track several times because of lag/bad teams, and I got over it within seconds. If that's all that was keeping you in GW, then maybe you should set some different goals for yourself.

Sorry for your loss.

Move on.

That's the reason the upper echelons of the Survivor title are so hard to achieve...
Not only are you fighting the enemies, you are fighting the game itself.
Time to reroll and try again. Being saddened (on the verge of quitting) because of this loss is definitely not the way to go - you'll appreciate actually getting that title when you achieve it all the more now that you've experienced this loss.

You got level 1... be happy with it.

I'm sorry to hear about your character. I had a ranger that I *loved* playing and had a great time with that died due to lag at about a million. I'm still a little sad that she never made it, but I worked though the "i'm quitting and deleting everything" phase in about 24 hours and then got back to work on the next survivor.
(and eventually even got one)
Edit: One thing that helped me was playing as if I had heavy lag all the time. Basically never getting into situations where the henchies were getting beat, never running places, never overextending - even vs. easy enemies. This is tedious so a compromise is to do all the high-risk stuff first, then go into turtle mode as the XP total starts to climb.

My MM is the only one who has achieved Survivor (1) so far with a lot of careful play (minions help immensely!) - no mapping out - and henches. It wasn't until she finally went out with a PuG that she died -- because one of the monks literally was standing around doing absolutely nothing except whining we were taking so long.
Well, sorry, dude, a few heals would have sped things up just a little more than us all taking dirt naps.......
(I was SO incredibly pissed off she lost the 2nd tier of Survivor by such rampant stupidity, but got over it. Instead of finishing Factions, she's decided to conquer, ummm, save Elona )

Diablo???
I had a survivor ranger too, died right after getting lvl 1 title. Deleted her because I realized how much limits that title has put on my game play.
Sedgehammer
I feel your pain. My boyfriend's survivor ranger died over halfway past the second tier. It was because he rushed forward and did Eternal Grove with people he didn't know and without me to monk support him, because he wanted to take advantage of the double experience for skill captures event in the armory. No fun. He lag died, too.
But I really think that being a successful survivor makes for better gameplay all around. It makes you comfortable being able to do damage and still stay alive on your own. We took his survivor ranger and turned it into a chest runner, and now it's his favorite character.

This is why I dont bother with the Survivor title. Anything that depends so much on how stable a connection is, is just going to be a pain....

No pain no gain?
Playing a survivor is _the_ ultimate PvE experience. The price of failure is high, but with determination you'll make it eventually. I'm not defending lag-deaths, they do suck and perhaps Anet could DC people sooner instead of making them camp in limbo while foes 'kill' them.
But don't try it if you know your own connection is unstable.

Risk of lag death can be reduced by playing carefully. Imagine that you could lag out at any time, don't put yourself in a position where 30s of lag will actually make a real difference. Play slower. Use 3 monks instead of 2. Bring more defense - shouts, wards, interrupts, etc. You want to make sure that, as often as possible, your team can handle things without you.
If you're going for survivor, play like you mean it.

im pursuing survivor on my ranger as well. its unfortunate that u lost progression on the title on account of lagg.
i hench 100% so i dont feel bad when i close the game window when im close to dying
im halfway to 2nd tier and ive only bailed on my henchies twice. once cause the game started to lagg real bad [unless teleporting is a new skill]. the second time my health got down to 24hp; i was 3/4 of the way to casting troll ungent but didnt want to risk it, so click.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the game and isn't a suggestion or a topic at all. Its just a guy whining and ticked that he got "screwed." Close please.
Div
First of all, quit whining, lag hits everyone regardless of whether or not you're a survivor. Second, 40 hours is nothing compared to level 90+'s in diablo 2 that die to server lag, so you can whine all you want. Third, get a life, as people shouldn't feel too much sympathy for someone who has nothing to do and plays 6 hours a day for a whole week. Close please.

lol your blaming A-Net for this, blame your damn internet service provider.

Well... reading that makes me happy that the three times I did die aiming for survivor were my own stupid fault.
Yup, I know the feeling of loosing the title, it sux and after a while, you start to wonder if the title is worth it at all.
And yeah, you are restricted in your play style, which, I guess, was one of the challenges. How much help can I be to my team with 5 skills rather than 6 skills? (1 res and 2 self-protection skills leaving 5 damage skills)
Good luck with it if you're trying for it again.

I'm surprised so many people even get to the first level.
I think of the phrase "I'm going to get the Survivor title" somewhere along the same lines as "I'm going to be an astronaut when I grow up". As for 3rd level Survivor... thats more along the lines of "I'm going to be the first man on Pluto" ..... coming from a woman.
Its just not something I could ever achieve. I wouldn't even try it.
I only recently got over 1000 deaths with my assassin. I wouldn't mind getting some sort of title for that. Perhaps I could get "Kamikaze" as my title if I die 10,000 times.... =P

To SotiCoto: There was actually a guy who achieved 1 million deaths, I think. It was a monk and, wow, that guy deserves a title.
To the OP: : ( I'm sorry. Sucks much. I had a Dervish and I was going for R3 Survivor. I boosted him with awesome gear and when I died (rather not say how) I just...couldn't bear to see him. He was a failure, in my eyes.
Just realized that that last sentance makes me sound like a bad father...

My Mesmer had 593K xp... and was still going for legendary survivor... until today... I was @ about 80% Health, Dervish boss does two hits on me... 100+ from the first hit 241 from the second, i die, and i'm sad there goes 60 hours... ah well... sh*t happens i guess
Blame the Monks
This forum needs a legendary survivor graveyard like the old diabloii.net forums used to have for hardcore toons.
Sorry for your loss

I know the feeling of dying right after you've gotten survivor. I had just barely gotten survivor 1 when a friend was helping me cap some of the derv avatars and I wasn't really ready for the horde of troops that came at me and killed me in 2 seconds.
If you are playing for survivor and you see the first signs of lag, usually the best option is to quit playing that character for a bit.

You have the first tier, that's an accomplishment in itself. Quit your whining, seriously. It's not the end of the world.
You have two titles even, there's something even I haven't been able to do on any character in 6 months. BE HAPPY.

Threads about losing survivor are pointless, and don't belong in riverside.
