To see how to do it on a non intel based pc, Combat Chuck has proposed a guide (View at bottom)
Heres my Step-To-Step guide how to get Guild Wars On a MAC PC
You MUST Have a intel based mac.
Do you meet these guidelines?
Quote:
What you’ll need * Mac OS X Tiger v10.4.6 or later (check Software Update) * The latest Firmware updates (check Support Page) * 10GB free hard disk space * An Intel-based Mac * A blank recordable CD * A printer for the instructions (You’ll want to print them before installing Windows, really.) * A bona fide installation disc for Microsoft Windows XP, Service Pack 2, Home or Professional (No multi-disc, upgrade or Media Center versions.) |
Do not use Darwine(or any other apps that are not OK'd by apple).. Using/Screwing with your computer can void the warrenty that you get with your apple. They can say "This program likely caused the problem" "We cant help you"
About the XP disk. Buy it or do it some other way. Give Bill more money, he needs it.
You must get SP2 (Service Pack 2) with a REAL serial.
For the install:
You will need 10-15gigs off free space to portion your HDD
www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/
Go to Apple.com and find their bootcamp, download the Beta edition and use the burned cd or real cd of Windows XP SP2.
Download the .PDF file
(http://images.apple.com/macosx/bootc...p_Guide_en.pdf) and PRINT it out that is on apples website right next to the place that you would download bootcamp at. Read this document twice front and back and install bootcamp using the Step-By-Step instructions that apple gives to you.
NOTE: if you do not print it out, you will have to guess what to do... Bad idea. After you installed windows and installed the Drivers (It explains this in the PDF) restart your computer. On restart hold the (Alt) key, then two harddrives should come up, press (->) so you select Windows XP.. Press enter and... install guild wars like you normally would if you had a pc..
Bootcamp is a quick, easy to use app that dosn't emulate the Windows OS so it runs at full speed. Great tool...

The first thing you should know is that Parallels will not run Guild Wars. You will either need to run Boot Camp or Wine. Wine is the free option, and with the new update it's supposed to work quite well. I'll dig up some links to guide you through that, and edit this post. Don't believe people when they say you should just return it, they don't know what they're talking about. http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=5903 - How well you can expect Guild Wars to work in Wine. http://sourceforge.net/projects/darwine/ - The Mac-specific distribution of Wine. http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=237910 - The Darwine help forum. As far as compatibility goes, your best bet is to run in Boot Camp. I cannot stress enough, Guild Wars will not work in Parallels. Parallels has no 3D acceleration. Boot Camp is just a boot loader that will allow Windows to run on your Mac, complete with video drivers and no Mac OS. If that's what you want to do. |
