Just a thought. (I didn't see a thread for ideas, so I'm putting it here)
I see a lot of people buying green weapons all the time, and despite the perfection of Greens, a lot of people take interest in Gold Items too.
Customization Shops offer the ability to add a percentage of damage upgrade to a weapon, but the weapon becomes unusable to any other character, other than the one that got it customized.
Now, this may sound stupid, but it's just an idea, so please refrain from flames.
What if Guild Wars included "Personalization Shops"? The function of the shop would pertain to Gold weapons only. An individual would present a Gold weapon to the Personalizer, and would give the weapon a name. The Personalizer would name the weapon, change the weapon's descriptions from "Gold" to "Red", and return it to the user. The weapon would no longer be able to be modified by the user or any other person. In all tense and purposes, it has become a "Green" weapon, the only difference is it was created by a player and has a unique name. It can be traded and used by others as well, but keeps its original name and cannot be "re-personalized". It can however be customized (Just like a green weapon).
The idea, more or less, comes from the old days, when a knight or warrior of some sort would be given a weapon, and the keeper would name it (The only difference is, back then you couldn't say the weapons name aloud, otherwise it would disown you).
Like I said, just an idea. If you think it's stupid then you don't have to spam your opinion.

Its a good idea thats been suggested before as an alternate form of customization. But like people have said so far it would be hard to monitor the names. I think in Diablo, you could do something like this, when you completed a mission, this lady would put your name in front of the weapon, so it would become "So-and-so's Sundering Hammer of Fortitude." That might be an interesting option.
