hey i just got this game today and i'm wondering if it's going to take forever to load ascalon city or w/e. thanks.

well that really depends on your internet connection 
If you have dial up like i had back home, then yes, it will take more then forever.

What happens when you first go into an area, the game client will download all updated files for that area before allowing you to use the area.
This can mean when you first start playing you'll have lot's of downloads as you enter new area's as there have been a lot of updates. However, once you have downloaded all the updated files for an area you won't need to wait for downloads again as you already have all the updated files.
If you have a fast connection you can start the client with thme -image tag (ie gw.exe -image). What this will do is force the client to download ALL files and uncompress them. Be aware that the current gw.dat file is ~3.5-4 GB big currently. So if you do the -image and have just recently installed the game, your up for a lot of downloads .. which could take quite awhile depending on your internet connection speed.
