My younger brother's PC, which I have meticulously defragged and reinstalled GW on, and done everything well to, and which has perfect stats for GW is now experiencing a major GW problem. All other games play fine.
What happens is that as soon as he loads, the yellow lightning bolt number shoots up, and never stops. Within just a few minutes its up near 100-120MB, and then the game crashes. I have no idea what this means / could be. He has DSL.
Please help clear a path for me so that I can fix his computer and let him play GW again, thanks.

I haven't been able to confirm this, but the lightening bolt represents streaming data updates. No idea why that would crash your system with out knowing some specifics, but perhaps if you run Guild Wars once with the -image switch and wait out the rather significant time for it to process the download...it just might be a work-around for the problem.

Quote:
-image Guild Wars client is designed to download the streaming updates in the background or when needed, in a way that will not much interfere with the user. This, however means that when a large-scale update is released, users may be required to wait while necessary files are downloaded and decompressed upon entering a new zone. With this switch, you can force the client to download and decompress all the pending updates on startup so you will not have to wait while entering a new area or mission. The client, when started with this switch, will exit immediately after it is finished with the download and decompression. Do not use this switch in your regular game shortcut. Either use this switch from a command prompt when necessary or make a new shortcut and name it something like "Update Game". |
