I'm having a hard time with this mission and can't make it past wave 4.

Anyone have any advice or tactics?

I actually skipped it and came back with all L20 heroes but the L12 henchman drop fast.

I've used group combinations with Dunkoro and Tahlkora with the hench healer ( heavy healing team ) to heavy offense teams and combinations. The results are always the same, wave 4 and we wipe out.

Is it possible with npc teams or are teams of 8 pcs the way to go?

i used my henchies and heroes when i was about level 16-17 i think.
An MM comes in handy. go for mass AoE degen as well. Suffering, rotting flesh, well of suffering

I set up one hero monk up with martyr and purge conditions and that seemed to work to keep poison and disease off the party enough to survive this one. Also kite the skales out of the wells of blood an try to focus on the frigids first as they spike pretty hard if they get a water hex on you.

My partner and I finally beat this quest like so:.....

I am Minion Master necro, my partner is the warrior that supplies me with the dead bodies I need (a perfect combination LOL).

We camped the area right outside the gate, forcing them into a small area.

Flagged our two monks back inside with me and the Ranger hero (Jin set up with Barrage). Monk one skilled up for low E heal spamming and condition/hex removal, monk two skilled for Prot Spirit and the other 5% damage enchantment (forget the name atm).

My partner (Warrior), Melonni (Dervish), 2 Kosses basically body blocking the gate. I just kept raising bone minions as the bodies kept falling and, when I had the chance/time, using putrid explosion.

Hope this helps.

Tip:
Just before the end, when u have only one or two skale left to kill - put all your heros onto "passive" or flag them deep inside the town if you've got henchies, and run around picking up all the loot - letting just one person (or hero) beat at the last monster while you're doing this, then finish the last monster off (the quest finishes suddenly and the first time we left a ton of gold lying on the ground)

what I did was a little different, all hero/henchy myself and heroes roughly 15/16th level. once the assault starts if you are far enough back, nothing comes into town. Facing the gate inch forward along the right wall untill a group just starts moving then pull back, let that group slaughter the townsfolk . They will come to you in single or sometimes double groups (not full waves of 3/4 groups) after 6 partial waves including the boss the quest will still show 6/6 waves remaining.
rest up
then move to the gate and defend the remaining 6 partial waves.
This way takes a little longer but the aggro is much more controlled with smaller groups.
