I can connect to guild wars no problem, but am downloading updates at 1 KB/sec
Any ideas?

A simple solution is just to let it sit there, and let it download.
A-Net's servers are very bogged down, and have very little bandwidth to spare. So to compensate, people download files from them at a very low speed at times.
Try to start the download at an early time in the middle of the nite, or in the morning when less people are online the servers.

I was just worried it was a problem my end.
I let it download, took a while, but the speeds are nice and fast again at this time of night

It must be something on anet's side (or something between us and anet) because i had it too when downloading the gigantic nightfall update

Are you on Dial-up or broadband? I had exactly the same problem even with a 7.6Mb broadband connection.
Best bet is like Vvon said download at stupid O'clock in the morning. I did & it went from 1Kb/sec to over 250Kb/sec.

Try downloading something else. if its slow too, its you or your ISP.

Just before I loaded Guild Wars, I downloaded Sun Java, which sat at a very respectable 350 kb/sec, so it`s definitely not a problem on at my end
