When you find a site that ACTUALLY rates games with a non-bias attitude, then you come back and post this.

His comment was true. This website is about as credible as citing Wikipedia for doctoral dissertations.

Wikipedia is actually as accurate as the Encyclopaedia Brittanica, which was naturally very discomfitting to the Royal Society when it was confirmed.

So, I think it's safe to say that they are unbiased and a good reference tool. With so many people using this site, it's a reliable source of information.

I wasn't questioning its accuracy, rather, its credibility. I don't know if you've ever written a doctoral dissertation, but a citation from a website like wikipedia would be a guaranteed failure. I have never written one, but my sister is in the process of finishing hers and just the information about what sources she should use is 15 pages long.

Its really a matter of siding on that long time debate over credibility and accuracy. Some sources may obviously be correct but hold no water. I wasn't saying About.com was biased or that I disagreed with them, I was pointing to the fact that about.com holds no true credibility in the gaming world. If this was given out by gamespot.com or another game giant then it would be different.


Honestly, when was the last time you heard someone say "I wanna buy this game... about.com gave it a great review!"

When Gamespot gave Guild Wars Nightfall an 8.2: "This is why I never list to critics, bunch of hacks who don't know anything about video games."

When About.com put Guild Wars first in a top ten list: "About.com is a very reputable site, DONT YOU DARE SAY ANYTHING DISPARAGING ABOUT IT >:|"

Yeah, I've kinda lost respect for Gamespot after their abysmal score for NF. They're obsessed with WOW, which I myself have tried out and am not impressed.

If it's a better game, then give it a higher score...that's so elementary. Obviously Gamespot have no idea what their scores mean and just give them out randomly.

About.com is actually blocked by most of the continuously updated "hosts" files. Not sure why but they must think it's a source for some bad banners or adware/spyware etc. Just a fyi.

People still use hosts files to block things?

In addition to this; Factions has been nominated for GOTY. We'll find out if it wins probablly on the 30th.

Perhaps we'll get a game of the year edition of Factions with more special weapons..
