Abbadon's Gate: The most boring mission ever!
Lania Elderfire
Anyone agree? Isn't this the most boring mission ever made?? I thought hell's precipice was boring. But no... Abbadon's Gate surpasses any mission in prophecies and factions in terms of pure repetitiveness and tactics is not a nessecity here.
Really I think this mission needs some improvement to make it more fun and dramatic... I mean it's the last mission for god sakes!.

It's a cakewalk mission for a team composed of players who have learned how to play PvE properly: pulling small groups, don't aggro everything, spread out and kite, etc. If you don't do these things, the mission becomes completely unmanageable. Imps will kill you with AoE, you'll be swarmed by titans on the giant open field, or you'll die to a fast-moving patrol attacking you from behind. Seems a fitting end to the game to me.
However, I think that the factions and nightfall missions are in general more exciting, or at least they each have their own unique characteristics than prophecies missions in general, which tend to just be long quests where your party can't die.

Lania, I direct your attention to the 3 minute long boss battle of Factions. Guild Wars doesn't exactly have a good reputation for quality last missions.
Abaddon's Gate seems akin to old Arcade style games, where a big final boss is used to simulate the feeling of absolute power, where it's a cakewalk if you know how to play the game.

They couldve easily had the last two missions merged. I think it's fine.

Yeah, the last one was a bit tedious, once you hurt him the first time, all the fun dissapears.

They make it a walk in the park for those people who have already finished the game once and want the endgame stuff (eg pheonix or endgame armour)
I know if they did merge raisu and sanctum and gates of madness with abaddons, everyone will be complaining that its too much of a hassle and that the endgame area should be an outpost blah blah blah.
But I agree that it is largley boring, monoliths do more dmg than abbadon

Quid Pro Quo
Spoilers of course.
Was a little dissapointed that we didn't get to fight him a little bit more head on like the concept art on pg. 112 of the CE art book suggested but other then that I thought it was nice. Although I'm a dramatic person and a role player so the whole "fighting a god" thing was a really awesome idea to me.

I actually loved the battle. The atmosphere was great, breathtaking. I was monking for a not so incredibly good team, and I had a great feeling doing it. No! Abaddon attacks again! Quickly, use a Light of deliverance. Oh, no, words of madness! Condition removal, and immediately use aegis and LoD. No! Someone's dying! Heal him to get him back up! No! Interrupted by Words of Madness! Quick, forget condition removal, heal him back up! Oh no, someone is down! Quick, res! Great! The last chain is binding Abaddon!
Etc.

I LOVE the last mission. It's so fun to go head to head with him. And considering how big he is.. I personally enjoy it quit a bit. On top of that .. it needs to be completed in a decent amount of time as it takes you to the place where you can get 15k armor and so forth. Unless they make that into an outpost (I have no idea why they don't) then I'm VERY happy with the last mission.. the second to last I don't like at all but I wont even get started on that.

I really think that this mission needs extra difficulty. I have done this mission 5 times and every time got masters reward. Only one time someone died in my hero/hench full party.
This is a battle against a GOD! It should be made very difficult! Where are the torment creatures and those pathetic margonites from that battle? Or attleast those enviroment effect like Veiled Nightmare?
Put attleast some random torment creature spawns at the middle of your group. And about that Earth Shattering Blow Abaddon uses... Players are just over sized bugs compared to Abaddon. Make that attack intant killing skill if it hits you. When i use my hand to kill a bug... It usually dies. So it should be like that in this mission also when Abaddon uses that skill.
This mission is a joke from ANet. A final mission and a battle against a god. Yeah right...

Well, I'm defending the mission. Excuse me but was the last mission of Factions hard ? It was done in 2 min with masters. Now you're fighting a god who has been imprisoned for a LONG time, you think you would have any power left ? I'm surprised he still does damage
No really, it's a decent end-game mission. The second to last one was for many players very hard, so the last mission covers that up a bit.

I don't think its boring...
In fact even though to beat it you got to do the same thing over and over agian, you actually never know what sort of setup your going to fight against.
You're either going to face alot of Words of Madness spikes, loads of Tormate Claws spawning, or a good mix of both.
I done that one alot and found that too many Tormant Claws spawning made it alot harder. Then done it again where hardly any spawned but we spent more time on our backs due to Words of Maddness.
I had fun with it cause i was controlling the monk heros with LoD and heal Party while attacking with my dervish making sure I had melundra constantly going and controlling the heros when it was time to head back before the rinse and repeat.
I just wish the Throne of Secrts was a mapable place after beating that, but if it was I wouldn;t of got masters on it, so I don;t know.

Yeah I do agree the final mission feels arcadeish... And after beating gates of madness, abbadon's gate is so easy in comparison. Yeah abbadon is beatable in about 16 minutes which is short for a mission... it just felt soooooooo much longer than 16 minutes.

Eliminate the morale boosts *grin*

Make the Throne of Secrets Mappable;
Also make it the outpost for the Elite Mission.
Make the mission harder than Madness.
Removing the boosts is a nice idea, not sure what else do to (not that it can't be done, I just don't have any ideas).

Don't forget that he's a weakened god, held by chains of the 5 other gods though.
He may be big, but he's still caged in.

This is a tradition in Guild Wars.
Both last and previous missiong could be merged in one. but they separate them in two.
So many people think the last is easier than the previous one.
But still some people say they are hard... until they get the way to make them.
That is balance. Some people say they are easy, some say they are hard.
Remember that beating the last is the only way to get to the 'last area', so it must be tunned so it can be made more or like 'quick' and 'often'.
Think in the Shiro and Lich and Raisu Palace as they were the last missions and Abaddon Gate and Imperial Sanctum as they were part of the 'ending cutscene'.

dude...Shiro was a 35 second fight.. The point was getting to him.

Speaking of Throne of Secrets....maybe the elite mission WOULD be there? =P If I remember right there was an area blocked off by guards no? Maybe thats ANet's solution to giving everyone an equal chance to go into Elite missions =/
Oh well =P Going off topic. I do feel they should make Abbadon a little harder though =(
