Horde of darkness quest?

For some reason the horde of darkness quest isn't working for me. I taught my wurms the seige skill and the quest updated properly. The next part is to kill the hordes that are guarding the ruins. I've done it twice, and the 2nd time making certain to only use siege on them. After killing each set, it says the quest is updated. However, after killing the 2nd set, the star and arrow disappear and the quest log still says I have to kill the hordes guarding the ruins. So I now have no more hordes, no more quest star and no more quest arrow and I can't get into the ruins. Any ideas?

There are 3 groups of Hordes out there if I remember correctly.
