Transfer Hero Control

I had a good idea while travelling with a guildie today in Cantha. It involves heroes but not in a way you might think.

While we were questing I had to go afk, and he was stuck with two henchmen since my heroes would nto follow him. What I was thinking was why not add a button to transfer control. It would be like a trade button where the person has to accept or decline. If they accept they can assume control of the heroes.

Now to avoid the problem of non-Nightfall characters getting heroes what could be doen is they become henchmen of sorts. The person has no control over which skills they use when, and they cannot enable or disable skills. So this way the player can continue with one person being afk.

Since you wouldn't give the heroes to some random person, and you don't ant to retake control in a large mob, the same way the heroes were given could be how to take them back. But instead of accept/decline you have to run up to the person, within trade range, and then the heroes just come back to your control if you click the button. This prevents them from running huge distances in the middle of large fights.

Comments on this idea?

This seems kinda cool. Maybe you could have a button that told the AI who to follow. Could use some touching-up, but, hey... /signed

Yeah you would have a button like the trade button and you woudl initiate the pass of crontrol by the same manner that you woudl trade. If they don't accpt they don't get control.

Oh and one small addition, the other player would not be able to pass the heroes to anyone other than the person who gave them to him/her. This saves confusion of who has them. And they automatically default back to whoever originally brought them when the party enters a new zone.

I encountered this situation myself 2 weeks ago. It sucked. Good idea.

Don't go afk when playing with real players?

The control issue is larger than it seems. Let's say you join a group and leader demands all heroes be transferred to them.

In case you assume this only happens in PUGs, and heroes are replacement for PUGs, it raises a dual issue. Either ask nobody in PUG go afk (apparently, this isn't possible, and happens commonly), or ask nobody of non-PUG (friends, guildies) to go afk.

If a player quits, their heroes stay. So if someone needs to go afk, there are two options. They either quit, leaving their heroes stuck to you, or you wait for them to come back.

The strangest thing happened to me when our party leader with 3 heroes disconnected at the first boss.
His heroes would not follow through the portal.
So I was left with my two heroes, our other member quit after the dc (and I wanted to know how far I could get).
I did the ranger part with my heroes, but died at the mesmers.
My heroes just went of (don't know how they did it, but they got back to the other heroes, which where somewhere in the ranger part).
I flagged them to my location and there they were.

When I flagged them through the portal at the end of the mission, they went to the other area, but the scene did trigger when I went through.

I failed at the elemental part

But, it was fun learning to control heroes which had a mind of their own.

I've been in a couple of situations where someone else's heros wouldn't listen to me after the person had died.
I tried to come and rez him, but all these hero's were running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
I think there needs to be a lot of work done on what happens when someone dies. It's hard to control your heros when your camera goes all wonky from dying and you have to rely on finding a person to use their camera.
I also found that if I died the regular henchmen would not all attack the target I was calling. RaWr.
