Eh?

Wha?

huh?

O.o

I basically play when I am not at work and not sleeping. maybe 5-6 hours in the evenings and at weekends...since I bought the game in April. I have 100k and NEVER had more than 200k. If by that "scoring system" I am a little more than "casual" how many hours do you need to be "regular"?

I make money as I need it and I've Never "stumbled" across 500k!

With my Tyrian Necro I can get like 3-4k a day and I've taken to putting some away in storage. Mainly because I have Heros for her and my NF character and its kind of expensive to outfit yourself and your Heros. It was shocked at how cheap the Warrior stuff was. Both my Koss' have all sorts of Sup Runes!! I keep getting Sup and Major Rune drops too. Lately I've been getting dye like mad. One day I got 7 dyes and 4 were from one character!! I refuse to buy anymore armor for myself save endgame. I've found that collector's armor is just fine and now all I have to worry about is remembering where the colletor is and making sure I have dyes for it. Also, I can concentrate on saving for expensive runes and insiginia. I almost wet myself after seeing the Undertakers Insignia. *lol* Anyways...once you get far enough in any of the games you get better drops and don't need to have much money.

Well I currently have about 1k, what does that make me?

I have 11 characters (One storage) and 8 sets of prestiage armor (9 if you count the one I got for my wife).

2 sets of armor are dyed black
1 black + silver
1 white.

Granted that's the reason I have so little gold, since I tend to only farm when I want to buy something.

I made over 200k this weekend and spent it mostly on dye, I don't think you can judge a character by there current gold balance.

I play about 3 - 4 hours a day and going off that "chart" i'm below casual.

Also what are you supposted to be if you have between 50 - 500k?

Well it depends what aspect of the game you play. Across all my characters I have around 60k with some nice items. I have all that I need to play Nightfall, though I am playing with fully equipped characters. I made around 2k just playing through that first Island solo in Nightfall - just exploring.

Farming, running, trading, and chest running I believe are the only ways to make my money (as far as I know.) There are random services people offer (artists draw sketches and paintings for in game gold etc.) but not everyone can do that so I don't count those =)

You can easily beat the game as warrior or really any other class on around 30k at MOST. That's just being lenient on skills. There was a statistics thing a while ago on how much gold the average player had, over 50% was less that 20k.

PvP players often don't have much gold either. Just keep around 10 skill points and 10k saved =)

I float around 100k at all times. bought primevil armor for my warrior and dropped to 11k the other day, i was back to 38k that same day and then a buddy paid me back from a long time ago and i'm back to 100k, I got a shiro minipet yesterday so i should be climbing back into the 200's soon. As for how much money you need: as long as i have enough mats and money for armor for all my toons i'm fine...I did make it to 600k once by endless 55 monking in the desert .lol the good old days

*gasps at you*

That you be enough to get you most of the 15k armors in all the games for your one profession.

Thats loads. Ive never had more then 70k in one go, but ive still managed to get about 5 x 15k armor sets.

70-80k is usually enough for the really expensive 15k armors which need rare materials.

You dont need loads and loads unless your wanting to go out and buy some stupidly expensive green which would probably drop in price in 6 months anyway.

Or your saving for obsidian armor.

I'd say about 10k-15k is all you really need for one character to play through the game. Even though I have loads of worthless gold (2 mil gold in storage and about 2.5-3 mil in other worthless items) I always like to play thru the game on my characters using mostly what they earn themselves. It makes for a more fun game if you actually have to consider what you want to buy w/o just giong to the bank and withdrawing 100k to spend on frivilous things.

But playing thru prophecies on my first character I managed to save up about 30-50k which was a lot to me then. I always heard about this rumored 100k max you store on a character, but laughed at it figuring I would never have that problem.

Just finished playing thru nightfall on my monk from tyria requires even less gold since I already have max armor. My heroes just use whatever junk I find on the ground, and whatever worthless runes I slavage off the drops. Really, the gold should be spent on skills you might acquire if you're a Elonian native. My dervish does fine and probably hasn't spent more than 3-5k yet at lvl 13.

Really, the only things you need in this game are: the latest armor until you hit max, collector's weapons (that used to be all my old Tyrian characters used), and carefully chosen skills. Spend on what you will find useful, splurge when you have those extra skill pts or gold.

Things you don't need:
sup vigor, special 5k/15k/fow/endgame armors, minipets, greens, keys, frivolous skills, rare weapons, etc, etc

possibly casters have it easier than your typical warrior simply because casters have such a limited selection of skins to choose from.

And just like in real life, figure out and get the money first before you spend it. Although there is no penalty for spending yourself into "poverty" in game, most players carry their attitudes about real money over to game money

Anet says their average player has LESS than 20k stored, or so I've read. To me this seems reasonable, I usually have about that much and I, like the first post on page 3 of this thread play almost every waking hour. I've put in probably close to 3750 hours in the last 18 months, well over 3500 at least, and I don't feel the need to have millions of gold in storage.

Actually right now I would estimate my net worth at -40,000 gold, because I just borrowed the last bit to get my Primeval from a guildmate that isn't playing much atm due to poor net connection. (Also after I bought that, I got Ancient Assassin armor and broke myself again, heh...)

I dont mean to sound bad, but where did you get those stats?

That is an absolute load of rubbish. I dont know a single person, including myself, who has 500k lying around.

Your average player does not have 500k to play with. I would consider myself an average player because im on nearly every night and Ive been through all the games and have quite a few full titles and I have about 5 sets of 15k armor.

Yet at this present moment I have about 5k and im trying to buy my last black dye.

The people who have vast amounts of gold to the sum of 500k, are those who farm non-stop in high-end areas.

Or they know how to play the market and buy cheap and sell high.

Your average joy might (for a week or two) have about 100k in their pocket, but only because their saving up for items or armor. Because they know whats coming, they know the game and what to save for.

Once they buy those items, their just as skint as the next guy.

The "casual player" probably has about 5-15k at one time, because they find it harder to save and dont know what to save for, so they just spend everything they get.

I think it all depends on what you generally do in the game...
If you farm a lot, then 100k isnt much.
If you play the game just by the storyline and the additional quests, then
100k seems a lot, because they dont farm.

Its all in perspective imo

Like said in the posts above it really depends on what you are doing. So far trading gave me a shitload of money, in one single day i could earn over 300k and another day only 30k, since it is really really boring i only do it on some occasions. I have enough money for the upcomming chapters. Even providing my friends with high end armor.

Don't believe everything you read. I know people who have posted they have millions but then tell me in-game they are completely broke. Welcome to the world of who has the biggest ego.

You do however have to take into account how easy it is to come by 1mill. A single chest run earned me roughly 1600k (2 R8 Mursaat horns 15^50) back when Mursaat horns fetched around 800k each. A lucky HoH drop has made people multi-millionaires.

The average person has 15-20k.

Funny, I consider myself an average player as well, averaging 1-3 hours a night over the week, less on weekends. I have virtually no titles, and I've only finished all 3 games on my monk so far. My necro the only other who has finished factions and just got vabbian armor.

the difference is what I do w/ my time I guess.. I don't farm usually (except for holiday items because I love drinking ale and turning into candy corn lol), I absolutely hate repetitious solo farming for the purpose of gold. I used to adventure in a lot of high end areas such as uw/fow/sf/tombs etc. Although I have 10 characters, only 1 has fow armor (all my ectos were drops, yes it took a while), only 2 or 3 characters ever had 15k armor mostly because I don't like the other classes 15k or they haven't gotten there yet. I've never bought a gold weapon or a green. Oh wait.. I did buy a purple cryst sword once.. lapse of judgement lol. I didn't buy sup vigors or absorptions back in the day. And I got my monk runes dirt cheap before the current prices.

I do spend my gold on frivolous items though, like minipets and diamonds, and prefactions I loved collecting rubies/sapphires.. sometimes for as much as 15k a piece.

But mostly I don't find very much to spend on in gw.. so I dump my extra plat into ectos which are cheap now and maybe one day I'll get fow for my paragon or derv.

Really though, if people stopped spending their plat on items they "want" and don't really need, one day they may find themselves wallowing in millions as well.

I understand there are many players with little gold - there's a poor guy I know who's farming just so he can buy some gems from me for some armor. I'll probably give him a discount later just because I'm nice. But then there are people who just drop 100-200k in my lap at a time for a few gems so I know there are many players w/ quite a bit of gold out there as well.

I've always wondered though, what the real life credit card statements look like for GW impulse spenders and people who are always complainging they have no gold.

i've never set made an income from farming; i was a trader. i spent MAYBEE a total of 1/7th of my game-time trading, and i have far, far, far more than 500k to my name.
while i will concede the average player has probably never seen more than 50k at one time (tho just because you've never had more than 50k, doesnt mean you havent spent that on your characters gradually over time), its purely out of ignorance of the ability to make money, that comes a statement such as "you cant make XXX amount of money without spending all your time farming."

all u need to do is the quests
they give u nearly everything
just play through the game normally and iden your drops and sell to merchant
that money can really pile up

as for me
when i started gw i made around 90k in my first week of gw without even leaving noob isalnd 0.0 yes its true =)
have been playing game for 5 months now and have a little over 3 million =P and am spending money buying 15 armor on all my chars and thinking of fow cause i dodn't have anything to spend money on i have everything i need =P

so u dodn't really need a lot of cash in this game and just dodn't buy high priced stufff theres allways a overfarmed green thats ridicously cheap

money's easy to acquire in this game if you have a little trading savvy. I've had this game for about 5 months now and I got around 4.5 million. Just finished buying all the 15k armor sets for my ele and I got a complete collection of prophecies greens, a collection of faction greens (missing 5), and starting my collection for nightfall ones.

just get a method that works and stick with it. I don't farm, have never been inside the elite missions, never done HoH, UW, or FoW. All my money is from trading.

I've played GW for around 3000 hours and the most I've had was around 60k. I've always had enough gold to do what I wanted in the game though.

I've never felt compelled to buy any of the 15K or FoW armors. As far as weapons go, I salvage so many gold weapons that I have tons of mods to make collector weapons do what I want.

I know I could easily have much more gold than I have, but trading and farming bore me to death. I usually give away any golds I don't need to guildies or allies. Out of the 8 black dyes I've had dropped, I gave 6 away.

I don't have any problem with people amassing huge amounts of gold, but for people to judge what level of player you are on the amount of gold you have is silly.
