Need Help Deciding to Make a Rit

I want to make a Ritualist but with the goal of VwK smite farming. I say this because it is far less expensive then a 55. I already have a name and what I want him to look like but I don't knwo if I should make one. I don't want to play a single player game due to nobody wanting me in a group. I read alot about long cats times and bad spells, well I made a Ritualst before Nightfall came out but ended up deleting him. I never saw a problem back when I had it.
Is it worth making a Ritualist for farming or should I just wait it out and make something else I cannot decide?

Well. Before the AI update it would definetaly have been worth it. After...eh, not so much. I love my ritualist to death, but I prefer farming with my monk and necro now. They're more capable of versatility than my rit, which is restricted to VwK for farming.

So I assume it is not going to be very beneficial to make one? Even for outside of just farming.

Ritualists are one of the most versatile and least specialized of the classes. In other words, it can it difficult to get into parties unless you are a healing rit.
I find the Ritualist the most rewarding of classes because they are the underdog and difficult to play well.
Farming using VwK is still possible - it just takes longer but efficiency is not a concern for me. I just play to have fun. Like Made in Ascalon said most of the other classes are more efficient farming.
Overall, I would recommend making a ritualist if you enjoy being a jack of all trades-master of none, an underdog, and are not too concerned with farming efficiency.

I found that to begin with, the Ritualist was an enigma. Then one day everything clicked and its been my favourite class since, you just have to give it that time.

I agree. I love the fact that I can switch my Ritualist to fill any of the following roles:
1. Healer. Great when teamed up with a monk.
2. Protector. Ritual Lords still work wonders in damage mitigation.
3. Damager. Channeling deals out consistent damage without running out of energy.
4. Soloer. Not only VwK...you can also create many wonderful builds with offensive spirits that work well. I've used my offensive spirit Ritualist to solo missions such as Nahpui Quarter and Gyala Hatchery, including almost all of the Prophecies missions.
I'm with Dahnel - by far my favorite class.

Minion bomber builds aren't really that effective unless you're a god at micromanagement (I'm not). Clicking on those little freaks gets on my nerves, I wish there was an easier way to target.

Forget the Rit, forget the Paragon unless you love to micro-manage. AI changes changed the whole plan.

I share your pain...that is why I came out with a simple but efficient build to play my newly created ritualist thru Cathan and NF. Took me 3 days to clear Factions and another 3 to clear NF. Going thru Cathan and NF 9 times helps of course.
The more I play this profession, which bored me down so much that I deleted it 9 months ago, the more I am in love with it.

So I decided to make a rit. My guildie and I I started them at the same time. He is running a restoration rit and I am using channeling with some offensive spirits. Seems to be working for us so far.

With the introduction of new skills, such as Spirit's Strength, playing a ritualist in PVE gives you the ability to pick just about any secondary and make a fun build.
I give mesmer and ritualists 2 thumbs up for their versatility in making fun PVE builds with.

I find that my ritualist is capable of performing more builds than any other character in the game. It is the ONLY profession (as far as I know) with skills that allow ANY secondary profession tree to be viable for use.
My Rit can...
1. Spike with daggers
2. Nuke with channeling
3. Heal with restoration and healing
4. Spam high energy spells
5. Play an explosive minion master
6. Farm with VwK
7. Summon spirits
8. Use a pet with weapon spells to interrupt enemy casters and just have fun
The list keeps growing every day! (It's a shame that skills cost 1 plat each, especially the ones that I've unlocked already =P)
IN SHORT, PLAY RITUALIST. Hardly anyone does it and you get a real sense of uniqueness. However, just promise me you won't become another spirit spammer in RA... we have enough noobs that use that cookie cutter (no offense to the genuinely good players)

I agree with Dahnel that it takes time to get use to the Ritualist at first.
When factions was released i was quite excited about starting a PvE Ritualist.. but with the limited skills on the island i found it difficult finding a good build... and kind of left her on the island.
Months later after messing around in PvP i started noticing how versatile the Ritualist could be and decided to give them another go. And since then they have become my favorite GW class!
