I know selling accounts is a no-no, but what about an unused key?

Hello guys =o)

A quick question that I thought I'd ask here, due to constantly getting labelled a scammer in-game. Now before you all get revved up into a flaming frenzy at me, please hear(read) me out. This is a genuine question...

I pre-ordered and bought 2x copies of Nightfall, 1x CE & 1x SE. The SE was for my mate whom I was trying to get into GW, but alas, even though he enjoyed playing it at my place, when I handed him the full game he was like "Whoa! I didn't like it THAT much...". And because it'a an online game requiring activation, the shop wont take it back, regardless of the fact the scratchy stuff on the card hasn't been touched. I have had a browse over anet's terms & conditions, and just kept reading about 'accounts', which this is not, so please read and let me know your thoughts...

So here I am, stuck with a second unused code for Nightfall. I am fully aware that selling an account on GW is forbidden, but is selling an unused key so bad? Is it not the same as buying from eBay? Because after all, it is not an established account I wish to sell, it is a fresh unused key, that any player without access to Nightfall can add to their own account and join the rest of us in Elona... Besides, there are players around that have plenty of in-game cash/items, but not enough REAL cash to buy the real thing, and would prefer to gain access to Elona this way... I guess really what I'm asking is: Is selling allowed? If not, can someone please kindly clarify the info for me. Or if so, who wants to buy it?

To all of those who called me a scammer, here's the deal: I enjoy playing GW alot, so why on earth would I do the one thing that has a 99.9% chance of getting my account banned? There is nothing REAL to gain out of it imho, except getting my account scrapped, which is the last thing I want after putting 6 months of work into it... I don't have any real mates who play GW (nearly had one), so it's not like I can say to my mates "Hey, I scammed some dude on GW the other day!"... They would probably say: "...errm, yeah... whatever dude...". And it's not like the scammed money would be of any use to me, because my account would be banned... So scamming has more losing for me than for the other person if I was dumb enough to do it...

I did have some people express interest, but they were naturally cautious due to so many scammers around. So as an idea, I suggested first and foremost to make a note of each others char name, then exchange armors and/or customised weapons (providing they're high-end), so that way both sides have A) something to lose, B) something they would want back, and C) something of no use to the other player. After that, make half payment in exhange for the code, then when the code checks out, we finalise second half of payment and return armors/weapons to each other... So if selling an unused key is allowed, this was the best method for the safety of both sides I could think of... Any thoughts?

Anyhoo, I would appreciate any feedback on this so I know what I can do with this key... In case you're wondering why I don't just create another account with it, well, I'm already stuck with a second Factions CE account that never gets used thanks to Adam backing out on me last time (different friend), which is why I got an SE this time and didn't register it, just in case... and sure enough, history repeats, it would seem...

Thanks in advance guys =o)

Since it's not been activated, I don't see a problem with selling the key, so long as the protective measures used for the key (sealed envelope or scrath-off) hasn't been broken. That way, once the buyer receives it, they'll know it hasn't been previously activated. You might have trouble getting your money back though, since few people will risk full price for an open box and possibly used account.

If it's sealed, i dont see why you cant resell it.

if its opened, well...good luck.

You don't own they key (full-stop). Therefore you don't have the rigtht to sell something you don't own. What you had paid for was the rights to use that key. I would seriously recommend that you dont sell it online because your account will go byebye. Just... sell it to a friend that you know, so you dont risk losing your account.

It is legal to sell an unactivated key - until you have activated it you have not actually signed the eula for that key.

However, you are not supposed to sell it in game - that is considered buyin in-game gold for real world money(ie - tjhe price of the game). that is strictly forbidden in the rules and will get your account banned.

So go ahead and sell it on ebay or wherever but don't attempt to sell it in-game!

I hope you are not someone who bought a Guild Wars box, claim it didn't come with a key, emailed and pestered support for a replacement key, and then now you have two keys.

Call me paranoid... but Guild Wars is full of strange people.

Selling ingame is not allowed by Arenanet, and selling on the forums is not allowed by us. You also could have searched for "selling account" and gotten an answer. Closed.
