Unlikely. The old items would probably need to have code revisions done to them. It's probably not feasible to do.

Heh. I've had a hard enough time finding Elonian weapons that can accept inscriptions. I've now got a nice 15^50 Scythe for my Dervish/Monk (Smiting) but that was the basic crafted ones. I've salvaged inscriptions and then couldn't put an inscription back into the same weapon. Odd really.
