I just had a really strange GW moment I'd like to share with you guys..

I met a seller of warrior weaponry a while back. I was looking for a nice sword to use on my warrior and fell in love with the elemental sword design. Unfortunatly I am not in the possesion of an incredible amount of ecto's, shards or money so A elemental was quite clearly out of my reach..

While spamming the cities of GW this person whispers me saying she has a selection of nice warrior weapons for sale.
She took me outside of town and I was stunned by the sight of her Elemental sword.. It looked even better then any pics I had seen on the internet. After looking trough her fine selections of weaponry (containing a wide variety of great looking skins and stats) I came to the conclusion that I could use a nice simple sword and bought a high reqqed wingblade sword (since that skin is still smashing imo for a measly 2k (even though it had a perfect furious haft, +26 health and req 12)

After the transaction, I asked the warrior If I could see his elemental sword in the trade window. She showed me without hesitation and I found that it was a perfect req 9 one.. I was stunned beyond believe.. I've seen these things go for 100+100 ectos (and more) in the high end forum. well, after talking about chest runs, soloing missions and general gameplay changes we bowed to eachother and traveled in our own seperate directions. The warrior whispered me that if she found a high reqqed crappy elemental sword, she would let me know, and I would get the first chance in buying it from her. (but that would still cost more then 100k, so I had a lot of saving up to do )

This morning, it was early, round 10 o clock, this warrior was the only on in my friends list that was online I started a conversation, asking how she has been
She asked me to meet her in Droknar's Forge, the reasons were unclear to me at the time.. I decided that a friend in need of help is always worth visiting, so I took the first boat to Lion's Arch, and traveled to Droks in a heartbeat.
After meeting up with my friend, We stepped outside once more and she openend the trade window.. The rest is viewable in the picture I included in this post..

She gave me her perfect Elemental sword just cause she couldn't play properly (Internet lag) free of charge! I was shocked!!
After talking for a while, she said she had to go and logged out, I was still stunned.. standing in Talos Chute, with a brand new sword in my hand, the most expensive one I had ever owned..

People can complain all they want about noobs, scammers and people who generally behave bad.. but as you can clearly see, there are still nice players in the game too.. Take that in consideration next time you feel bad about the game..
This is also proof that WAMMO's are not always dumb noobs..

I just wanted to show you guys what happened, cause it did stun me, and still does.. I blotted out her name, not to discredit her, but just to make sure people won't nag at her for free weapons..

P.S. I am not selling this sword, so offers are useless.. This sword has emotional value and that cannot be expressed in GW money

Its a good feeling being generous, I have given out a few random things out for free such as eternal shields and storm bows after UW runs a while back.

Order of the Migrating Coconuts [ALBA]

And the best thing about the whole story (well, kinda) is that you've shared it with everyone else in honor of that player's generosity .

There are incredibly generous people in GW. Months ago my necro was given the funds and materials to finish 15K bonelace (I only had the top because that's the piece I really liked and had combined it with other armor for a cool look). Even though I told the nice stranger this, she insisted - so I finished the set and gave away what I didn't use (gold and materials wise) in Ascalon to newbies.

One friend, an incredibly sweet person in real life as well, gives away nearly all her drops -- and she is really lucky with drops. I have to watch what I mention in passing about weapons because the next thing, she's kiting off to try and get me something! (I refuse to take advantage of her sweet nature!)

Yesterday my new elementalist needed a single vial of yellow dye for new armor, so I advertised in the trade channel. (I'd much rather pay a 'real' person than the trader if possible and I was only short by one.) Someone whispered right away, "Want a free one?" Next thing I know, he opens a trade window and pops in a yellow, purple, green and RED! His only comment to my stunned "WOW, thank you!" was "Merry Christmas".

Yep, these bright lights may be few and far between, but thank the gods they're ingame (and in real life)!

Grats... only time i got something worth alot, was when my old guildleader and very good Italian friend quit GW... and I still miss doing stuff together (he's trying to convince me to start playing NWN2 now though), but at least it made me able to buy Mesmer FoW... and I'll never get rid of any armor piece, I owe it all to him. I don't blame you for NEVER selling that sword. Not only is it by far THE most beautiful sword I have EVER seen. Not only that but it's a gift. As a rule, you don't sell gifts. You treasure them and remember the person for their generosity. Just as you have.

Yeah, congratulations on getting a really nice sword.

Bet this will go down as one of your best guild wars days.

One of my best guild wars days was when a monk friend of mine suddenly gave me a mini kuunavang dragon. Stoked.

I'll never sell it because as you mentioned it has emotional value.

*sighs* I used to have a friend like that and then he turned out to be a real cad and rather than report him for harrassment I just let the friendship drop by the wayside... It still bugs me though, cause I had really valued our friendship and I could have let the incident go, but he wouldn't ;_;

However along the way I have met some incredibly nice people. At one time there was a married couple that would go to ascalon and give stuff out at least once a week, sometimes money, sometimes items, ya know the usual. One guy gave my brother a gold 15^50% Chaos Axe req. 9 and this was many months before Factions came out... A guildie gave me Drago's Flatbow for last Christmas - and a few of my guildies went in hunt of Rotwings Recurve for me just to show they cared <3

You are VERY VERY lucky! And I really wish that person well and hope that the lags stops for them so that they can come back and play. GW is a much better place for people like that ^_^

I give out items occasionally when I find myself in the lower level areas after a good days adventurin'. Most of the time they're white, blue or purple items that are max dmg, but not highly sought after. Even though my heroes are fitted out rather well, I'd rather not merch them since they're still useful. So, I combine them with whatever leftover mods I have (like elemental dmg strings and not-quite-perfect grips) and give them to new characters looking for equipment.

Just recently I gave a max dmg Elonian sword and shield set to a warrior in need after helping her through the first few missions in Ascalon. They were just blue items that didn't have the best looking skins, but she was happy to receive them. Especially after my brave level 20 ranger fought off all the big nasties that were keeping her for completing her goal.

I don't do it for those who want to amass great wealth, I just do it for those who want to play the game.

How do you run from ice caves to dunes [of despair]? :/ Backtrack to beacon's and go --> LA --> Sanctum --> Dunes? That makes absolutely no sense.

As for the sword... swap the sundering mod for something good :P

I used to do this run for free all the time.

Ascalon>Piken's>Courthouse>Yak's>Ice Tooth Cave>Beacon's>Gates of Kryta>Lion's Arch>Bergen Hot Springs>ToA>Fisherman's Wharf>Sanctum Cay

I'd start out with a full load in Ascalon, pick up more in LA, and usually end up with 3 by Sanctum Cay. I used to do this when I was bored. Full run took about an hour.

Desert run, Sure, once they got to Augury. I hate scarabs.

You too eh? When I would be slightly inebriated and bored, I'd do the same run for free... Got 10k in tips once though

I've given away a 8 req 15^50 Gothic sword, a req 9 +15%-5e Gothic sword (that one to a newbie in Shing Jea, with the parting advice that it was a very valuable sword, so don't sell it to the merchant or something ) and countless clean, low req weapons and shields to new characters... Then again, I wouldn't have taken the name Santa Claws for my monk if I didn't have a tendancy for generousity.

That elemental sword is pretty sweet, I've never been given anything that valuable, although I have had a lot of guildmate assistance when it came to getting some of my prestige armors.

i just yesterday experienced generosity in GW too.

a good friend quit the game and he gave me all his possesions (just about). it was something like 320k cash. 50ecto. 12 shards. and an extremely wide variety of weapons mods sheilds etc.the only thing he didnt give me was his monks FoW armor cuz he wanted to delete his monk in his favorite armor. and he also gave me his dwarven axe to pass on to another friend who we regularly hung out with.

I agree with you on that one darth.. it is only a sword, actually, it isn't even a sword, it is a bunch of 100101001 data on a pc.. it is not worth anything in real life.. But still.. weird as it is, people (yes, me too) get excited by seeing beautifull designs, in weaponry or enviroment

The thing that mattered to me most was the feeling I got when this kind warrior handed me her sword.. a token of friendship I believe.. Like some costumized headgear or weaponry I keep on me in memory of friends who stopped playing, or are not around that much. I have a dragonhead from dragonfestival, and a tenguhat from the day of the tengu from friends which I keep on me at all times. It just happened to be an extremely worthy sword in this case, which makes it even rarer to me.. By all means, she could have sold the sword and e-bayed the money, get drunk ingame or in rl, or just merch it for all she could care.. but she choose to give it to someone in need, that is special, and for that I felt like sharing

It inspired me to give away a lot of stuff too.. I always did help people out by doing quests with them, giving them all drops after missions, helping people farm some extra money for armor or weaponry, or just giving it to them if I wasn't in dire need myself.. Now I gave all of my ranger greenies (17 bows) away to other new rangers in Ascalon, Shing Jea and Kamadan.. Just cause I felt like helping people out and making them feel as good as I felt this morning
I hope more people get inspired to do this ^^
Sharing is fun, hooray for christmas

I am almost always giving hings away. Most of the time they are weapons that I will never use and don't want to spend the time or energy spamming for long periods of time trying to sell them. I can usualy be found on occasion in either Ascalon or Shing Jea Monestary depending on the weapons that i have to give away. As far as what I give away most are max damage Purples or Gold, the only time I try to sell one is if it is a sundering or has +30 hp. Even then I have been known to just give those away too. I ask yalll not to wspr me ingame as my stock is always fluctuatingdepending on where I have been in the game and what I have been doing (I realy dont farm for weapns or gold but lately I have been farming Lightbringer Points). I do not take special requests either, I give away what I find in drops and chests. I feel this is the right thing to do seeing as there are far too many players out there trying to make a quick buck (what is someone gonna do with the max amount of gold they can have in Guild Wars).

its nice giving as well as receiving. Just wished GW players would give more often. There was this newbie ranger once who was in my party for a mission. after the mission in which our only Healer left us in the middle but we completed it anyway with good teamwork, I only realised he was new when he asked where to go next. So i asked to see his bow and it was kinda sad honestly so i gave him a perfect feathered longbow and boy was he happy. I could feel his excitement and happiness across the continents sitting right there in my bedroom. So moral of the story is helping ppl who deserve to be helped is a wonderful feeling.

Last night, I was in Sunspear Sanctuary where another player was desperately seeking an answer to "Where is Avatar of Grenth?". The other players were all razzing him telling him to kneel at a statue of Grenth and pay 1k when it was quite clear the player didn't want to access UW. He wanted to cap the skill. Having Wiki in favorites, I looked it up and whispered him. I also told him that he needed to have rescued Koss already as well. He thanked me. A minute later, I get a rather plaintive "Are you busy?" from him. Knowing what was coming next, I offered to take him to the skill location. (I had been busy. I had just finished a primary and was logging off for the night.) Along the way, I capped a paragon skill and got a gold bow drop. He got a green and his skill cap. Although he thanked me, he didn't offer any "payment" and I didn't ask (or expect) any.

I love generous people like that, they really give me more motivation to play. Awhile ago I was in an outpost asking what kind of bow would be a good choice along with the max damage of one and someone just gave me a green shortbow for free after we talked about the bows for awhile. Another time someone gave me a green longbow just for talking and staying in a party with him and his friend for a mission. Just finding social and helpful people already makes me very happy but seeing such generous people really makes my day ^___^

Also, the equipment and armor in the screencap look damn awesome, didnt even know a sword like that existed XD

A very nice story about the sword!

There are a lot of nice people in GW. But I think many of them are a bit put off by the "greed culture" in the community outside the guilds.

If you want meet more nice people, try find a good guild. The generosity and helpfulness is much more common inside guilds than outside. But when you meet nice and friendly people unexpectingly in town or PUG, it is always a very nice and welcome surprise.

I used to be generous , I still am but I find people take advantage of me . It's sad but for me I find that I give and never receive in return for it . I probally gave out over 1000k , about 500k to one person but I never really got anything in return . It seems I meet these people who want to be friends but they only talk to me when they need something . They need plat , need to get run here , needed to get power leveled and etc. Oh well , i'm not becomming greedy because of that but it's true people want to be around you when you have it all .
But in your case you received without even asking which I find respectable.
