Cheap Dire pet
Kasztelan
I know there are more topics about dire pet. I need to get dire pet but I don't know how to do that. I have Prophecies camapign only. I want to have that pet qith my Mo/R character. I also don't have much money to buy many new items or sth. Can you help me getting a dire pet not in 2 hours but spending semo time on it if necessary?

are you in a guild of some sort?
perhaps you could get a team together and trap UW in search of a dire spider
or probably it would be better to just charm one animal that you like... and power level him...

You have only 2 option: either you pay around 20K for a spider run in UW (and you may have to do it several times as the spider is randomly evolved) or you charm a pet and train it yourself. No one else can do that for you if you want a dire pet. Basically, you need to go with 12 in BM and let it attack (don't attack), with a few BM pet attacks, and skills like call of protection and symbiotic bond to keep him alive (+ self-healing, which shouldn't be a problem for a monk). Minos outside Ice Tooth Cave and later in Elona are easy targets for your pet.

As Sir Mad said, there's really no quick and cheap way to get a dire pet. If you do choose to evolve one, I would suggest using the guide by Jenosavel and Epinephrine:

For a Mo/R it should be relatively easy. Simply invest highly in beastmastery, have some points in protection and possibly some in healing if needed.
To ensure your pet is safe, maintain a life bond to your pet.
Use Balthazar's Spirit on yourself, so that every hit to either yourself or your pet will now generate an energy for you.
Call of protection will pretty much eliminate the remainder of damage your pet might suffer.
Symbiotic Bond to top it off will ensure safety for your pet - it provides 3 pips of regeneration for it as well as halving the damage. With 12 BM your pet now can take a 70 damage hit and suffer no damage.
That's 4 skills. With Symbiotic bond and Life bond up your Balthazar's Spirit generates 2 energy every time your pet is attacked. You can thus afford to have some damage skills. Pick 2 pet attacks to use to kill things. An example might be Feral Lunge and Scavenger Strike, since this will crank out decent damage. While lots of enemies are attacking you'll have the energy to use them, when fewer are present you may have to slow down.
Your remaining 2 skills are to keep yourself alive. They can be elite or not, since you have no elites used yet. Feel free to draw from healing or from protection, or both. With the energy coming in when attacked you can easily afford Prot Spirit for example and a heal of some sort. I used Heal as One in fact as a heal, so that I could invest fully only in BM and prot, and only ran one pet attack (thus 3 other skills). Worked fine.
The place to start is likely the minotaurs at Ice Tooth Cave, grind away there until you hit Aggressive. By then your pet will have the AL to go up against tougher foes, and you can try griffons or some other physical foe you can get to easily (troll cave?). I leave it to you to find a good place, but a build like that should have little danger for your pet (even with bleeding present it takes no degen, thanks to symbiotic) and with the energy pouring in from the balthazar's spirit the pet provides a lot of energy.
Prot Spirit on the pet ensures that it never takes damage, since any hit for more than 10% is reduced to 10%, and the mulitple reductions bring that to 0 - it can tank any physical foe that way. Obviously, unlike most builds in which the player tanks and the pet stands clear, this setup can allow the player to kite away and around, and the pet can take the brunt of it,since it's essentially invulnerable with the prot spirit on (provided the symbiotic and life bonds are up and you maitain the call of protection to reduce damage to 0). If you use Prot Spirit you can start with tougher foes, since they can't hurt even a low level pet (it's like a 55 pet!) so long as you can take the damage that comes your way.

By the way, anyone knows how the XP is shared with pets? Do they share it with the other players in the team and/or the other pets? Do scrolls work?
Epinephrine
Experience for pets comes from a magical pool of experience. They get a share based on the number of humans and NPC party members. However, having a pet doesn't affect the share that any player gets, and is unaffected by the number of pets.
i.e. you and 7 players play, you get 1/8th of experience.
You and your pet and 7 players play, you get 1/8th, so does everyone else, including the pet.
You and your pet and 7 people with their pets play, each has as a multiplier 1/8, including all 8 pets.
Scrolls do not affect pets, nor do they benefit from quest rewards.
Experience for pets is roughly double what a person would gain, or their levels require roughly half the experience - either way, they level about twice as fast as a player would.
So, yes, pets share in a way - their share, or experience multiplier is affected by the number of party members. Party members however do not share with the pets, the pets draw on their own pool of experience obviously, and don't affect the amount that the party members get.

I just capped a Hyena today and have began training it to be my first dire pet. I've been using a build similar to the Mo/R one suggested by Epinephrine, but with a Enraged Lunge as the elite and I've found the life bond combo to work well. My pet is still lvl 9, but I don't think it has taken a single point of damage so far, lol.

i think the only tihng that matters while making a dire pet is not to let the little critter die...
Cathode_Reborn
My pet died at the Ice Tooth caves once during his dire lvl'ing while I went afk...I freaked out He eventually evolved into dire.
On another note, making a pet dire can take a few hours....are you really sure you want a dire pet on a Monk?

At some point during factions I did the following:
1. Found a rez shrine where there were tigers wandering around.
2. Took off all my armor.
3. Wanded a level 5 tiger once.
4. Let it kill me.
5. Rez'd and since I was in the tiger's aggro bubble it attacked and killed me.
6. Repeated 5 for about 3 hours until the tiger was above level 15 (and now dire).
7. Put on my armor.
8. Used Charm Animal on the level 15+ dire tiger.
...
Profit!

Honestly, I see no point on having a pet with a monk Unless you plan to smite off of it (Which does not work very well from what I have tried)
As when your pet dies, it disables your skills for a while. This can be rather lethal for a monk as your party has to survive without you each time that happens, and with a dire pet, it will happen more often.
Not trying to flame, just constructive criticism.

Profit! Rofl! That is the most unique way I've ever heard of someone getting a dire pet. That has to be a p.i.t.a. though since you can't pause and zone until it's fully leveled to dire.

It doesn't work anymore, though. They fixed it so that wild creatures can not be levelled by killing players anymore.
Or so they said, haven't tried it since...

Or so they said, haven't tried it since... I doubt that: it still works in Pre-Searing - that's how people get Defender of Ascalon (unless it's a very recent change, but I guess they would have mentioned it in the latest dev notes then).
