Will the Search function be fixed soon?
viper008
Every time I try to use the search feature it NEVER performs the searches, the page just refreshes and that’s it. I have to use Google instead in order to find what I need on this forum and it’s very much a pain sometimes.
Thanks

With the new guru subscription program and the help of those who support us, everyone will definitely see improvements in site functions. Search should be one of these features.

Since serch funtion is a basic function on any forum and now have to pay to use it well no thanks and you won't get any money from me.

Edit I Just found a post with an admin telling someone to use the seacrh but it doesn't work.

I think you misunderstand. You don't pay for a new search. The search we have is a feature all users use regardless of their support status. The support, however is helping us out. The first priority is keeping the servers working so that people can actually access the site. And the money put into running this site isn't going into anyone's pockets, it's going into the improvement of the site.
So with the support of the users who've decided to contribute, we can get more done in less time. Which means that once the servers are ok we can move onto noncritical but important site functions such as search.
We don't need your money, no. Donating isn't something we require. The benefits of doing so do not give anyone an advantage over anyone else in viewing the forums. However, other users see that helping the site will help stuff like search get working quicker. So instead of complaining, they help us out.
We know search sucks. And we're doing our best to fix it. Don't jump the gun, though, under the assumption that we can fix everything now at your whim. Because we can't. The best I can say is that our efforts are going to the site and that we're working towards making things better for users. What else could we do? I don't exactly help out here so that users can have a bad experience. And I don't make "Sick jokes."
And I just clicked the link, it does work. Are you giving it more than 10 seconds to load the results below the search input?

I've been putting off making this thread for some time now so it's not like I've never game you all time to work on things with the forum. I do know you all have jobs, life, family ect away from the forum so I do unsterstand that tings can't be fixed when people here on the forum when people want it done.
I do wait for 10 seconds and more but nothing turns up just a basicly a page refresh happens. It only happens on this forum and even if I disable my firewall on my pc and my router same thing every time. (I never has this problem several months ago)

Hi Viper, search should be working, please list the URL of the search page, what browser you are using, what term you are searching for and if you can include a screenshot of the result page so we can debug and figure out whats going on.

Ok for this I just used key words: dye charts
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...0&cat=1&frm=-1
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/searchbt.php
I'm using IE6 as my browser with SP2, OS Media Center 2005

I seem to be able to search fine with both IE6 and Firefox.
My search urls:
Code:
Quick search at top of page:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/searchbt.php?search=dye+charts
Advanced search:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/searchbt.php?search=dye+charts&order=1&user=&scope=4&cat=1&frm=-1
My search urls:
Code:
Code:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/searchbt.php?search=dye+charts&order=1&user=&scope=0&cat=1&frm=-1 Your search doesn't seem to work for me either, giving no results. I'm curious as to what scope=0 does.
kzap
yes what link do you get the scope=0 from, or what page did you search from

What happened to searching for a user's posts? It used to link to BoardTracker website that would find all posts by a user, now it links to a page saying you don't have permission.
Carth`
? can someone clarify has it been disabled or is it available only to people who pay?

We Elite/Core guru members do not get any special "extra's" we do not get a faster load time we do not get a better search feature what we do get is listed on the subscription page.

It works fine for me, but it could be because moderators need to use this function to dig up some dirt on someone >_< (like multiple posters).
Feminist Terrorist
Regular members get the regular, barely functioning search. Most of the time I just want to look up my own posts. I've had to resort to subscribing to nearly everything I post in. :/
Omega X
They could have just let Google index and use them as search. The board tracker thing is useless at finding recent posts.

If you click a users name from within a thread, a dropdown list appears, and the option to search for other posts by that users appears. However, what it actually does is seach for threads by that user, not posts, which isn't quite as usefull as many people would like I'd bet.
Feminist Terrorist
Both options return a message telling me I don't have permission to access that page.
Grrr.

It seems to be reverting to scope=0 for me on a new computer, not sure what's up with that. I'm guessing scope refers to how far back the search will look, and 0 probably only comes up with very recent threads or none at all.
