I am aware that there have been many threads on this topic, howver, most of those threads involved some extreme idea to solve a simple problem.
I just today, was doing Gate of Madness, and we had just reached Shiro and The Lich when my modem decided to restart itself. I was disconnected for aproximately 30 seconds. However, I was disconnected from Guild Wars, due to lack of a response.
The odd part is, I was running Team Speak at the same time, and all that happpened was I had 30 seconds of silence, then I was back to talking with my guild. As well I had Xfire running, and it was also not disconnected.
That means, I was disconnected short enough for TS and Xfire to not count me as being disconnected.
I think that the allowed time for a computer to respond before the connection is dropped should be increased. I am fairly certain that this could help greatly reduce the number of people getting kicked out during missions, HA, GvG, or anything that requires a large time investment.
Extend Allowed Connection Loss time

Xfire and TS are lossy protocols. They allow for packets to go missing, since that's one of their requirements - ensuring quality of service for communication software is not viable for such simple applications.
GW cannot lose a single packet. If it does, client and server run out of sync irrepairably. In case of GW, you lost 30 seconds worth of packets, which were, for most part, discarded by the server as describe in TCP/IP protocol (that's on system level, there's no way to control that via software without violating internet protocols).
This wasn't about disconnection itself, but about the fact that such long time with no physical connection is considered a dropped connection by the internet (TCP/IP).

no , that is true , gw can live without 30 sec of packet loss , it happen to me 30 sec lag before everthing work again.
the probrem is if the connection is lost (like a modem failure)gw wont attempt to reconnect.
they promised long time ago they are working on reconnect.(before faction release)
its like the mercant improvent. imo wont happen any time soon.

In case of physical disconnect, server will not receive a single packet, not even keep-alive packets. It's therefore forced to assume client has disconnected (which it has).
Lag means packets are delayed, but they are still arriving. That can last for a long time, but they are still getting through.
But whatever the solution, it's long overdue. Disconnects for whichever reason are #1 gameplay killer.

Well I quess basically we need a way of allowing a brief total disconect, for something like 1 minute max. However, I guess this might put more stress of the network, as it will be required to "remember" things for a minute back.
Still, I think if they managed to figure out a way of making short disconects (possibly caused by a restarting modem, a cord being pulled out, a glitch somewhere in the network, etc.), then many badly timed disconnects could be avoided.

Heck, I get dropped by Guild Wars if I have a blink in my service for a literal second... my ISP occasionally "blinks" for lack of a better description and I would never notice except Guild Wars drops me (ERR 07). Happens at least 1-2 times a night, usually right in the middle of a cooperative mission or something.
Really wish they'd even give 5 seconds buffer before they dropped us.

I sometimes see a 'Conection timed out' password login panel...
Maybe it does exist but is not working properly?

anyway if the modem fail that is a complete disconnection.
i asked today to Gaile about the recconecting thing. she said we are working on it , but not anytime soon
