Do animals still level up by killing you?

I know if you let an animal kill you over and over again, it used to level up... was this removed?

It was removed but its back now and so it a new title LDOA Legendary Defender Of Ascalon. Reaching lvl 20 in pre. after lvl 16 you have to death level which is have an enemy kill you over and over then lvl to 20 then you kill it. So no it isn't gone.

EDIT: Yes I Dlvled a moa to 15 and then charmed it, so its twice as big and almost 4x the size of me

So can I get a dire pet this way (by having him pwn me repeatedly)?
