The update just applied 5 minutes ago...well, my GW won't update!

Normally, the A new build of GW is avalable blah blah thing pops up, I restart GW, it updates and runs.

Now, I restart, it doesn't update and goes in GW straight away. I could still go in my characters, but it's stuck on the old version, and when I tired RA, it says something like: This build of GW is no longer supported blah blah. So basiclly I'm stuck with an old version of GW that won't update.

Anyone else experincing this problem?

Have you tried running with the -diag switch and see if throws anything obvious up?

You could try entering different DNS IP's into your TCP/IP settings. You never know, it may be a DNS problem at your ISPs end.

I use OpenDNS myself, it's totally free.

http://www.opendns.com/

If you know what you're doing then here are the IP's

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

If you're not sure then read that site first, it's quite straight forward though and easily reversible.

Well, if it's really going to take a long time to fix, you may just want to consider reinstalling, I would think that could fix it.

probably have to wait for the next "new build" and see if that has the same problems, obviously this build is buggy with all the ghosts.

It feels like Anet has sent the update servers to Tibet.

I uninstalled GW, and reinstalling, current download speed is less than 1K/s and about 2000 files to go, I don't recommend anyone doing this.

You should've saved the .dat file...

BTW, I sent a message regarding this problem with a link to this thread, hopefully something comes up. Keep your fingers crossed.

Latest update:
I wiped the folder and reinstalled with a new client from my CD. Although the initial patcher update still re-routed to China or somewhere(very slow download), the game content update server is I think in US, I am downloading about 130K/s, start up screen is in English and looks like it will be done in a few hours during my sleep. I am doing -image at the moment, 30K files to go. Wish me Luck.

I think the problem is Anet is trying to auto-route player's update server by their OS native language(in my case is Chinese mandarin). So if you have a different language OS, you might get re-routed to the language native region.

Cassie, Your problem seems to me to be very different then the others since you say it sits at connecting to Arena Net I suggest you go to your firewall settings and make sure Guild Wars is allowed to run because after upates alot of times my firewall blocks Guild Wars with out notice so I would check that first.

Umm before it would say the exe has been changed do you want to allow it access to the net, but now it seems to not allow zonealarm to do that.
so i turned off zonealarm and what do you know it's working, so something has changed to make it less tolerant of zonealarm.

But YAY! it's working again

This is for Cassie "DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR FIREWALL IT IS A BIG MISTAKE".
You will have to go into program control in the zonealarm control panel then choose Programs it will show a list of all the programs that have internet access from your computer. Find Guild Wars in the list and set it to allow. Now go into the Main part of the programs within ZoneAlarm and set it to medium so that it asks you wether to allow a program to access the internet. That should help out. I also use ZoneAlarm and have never had a problem with it. Also make sure that the Windows Firewall is turned off as that may cause conflicts between Zonealarm and the built in windows one.

Reinstalling won't work, I've tried it. (Of course without deleting the .dat file)

Not that it matters, because I think my GW just updated ^^
