Salvaging items to get materials - no more "buggy" - woot!

I dont know "when" it has been corrected but obviously in one of last updates.
Before, at least one free slot in inventory was needed to salvage any item for materials (so if you had full inventory you needed to drop other item, salvage, and pick up dropped item).
Today, I tried to salvage item with full inventory and now it worked! Item's slot was just replaced with materials with no need to make one more empty space!

That stinks, I was filling my inventory with rare crafting materials and salvaging; if it didn't stack, I assumed it was a common crafting material. It could of course have also been a rare crafting I didn't have in my inventory at that time, as I was only carrying the most common rares for what I was salvaging. Luckily I filled up on alot of materials by doing this before the change.

I don't know about that. I was salvaging stuff today and needed to drop something to do it because my storage was full. I think some items need you to drop something (like armor) and others don't (like swords). Not sure though.
Anyone know?

Anything that gives you a chance of keeping the original item will need 2 slots free in case the original item survives the salvage process.
Anything that is automatically destroyed on salvage only needs one free slot. Previously this wasn't the case, and you needed two slots just to salvage crafting materials from a white avicara armor or similar.

This will also happen if the item you are trying to salvage can produce more than one salvage item , ie: Spider webs, which can produce either dust or silk.

It still seems to be broken for me. Had a sentient spore I picked up, tried to salvage it, couldn't so had to drop another item before I could salvage the spore.

It will happen when you are trying to salvage armor / weapons that can still be in your inventory after the salvage.
Example: I have 0 spaces free but want to salvage my Sundering mod off of my X weapon. I can't do this because my weapon still has a chance of being in my inventory after my salvage attempt.

this still happens to me and on items that produce nothing but say glittering dust such as etherial garments the djinn drop. I still need to drop something then salvage.

Some update did break this. I used to be able to salvage with a full inventory but last night I was having to drop stuff on the ground for the salvage to work.

If this has been "fixed" that's great news. I hated salvaging with a full inventory and not have the item disappear as it should so that the new item could go in its place or just stack on something. Made for a lot of inventory shuffling and trashing of stuff.
I do recall it had worked some time ago as the "norm" and then it was changed without a patch note.
Glad to see it back to normal.

It was actually a deliberate change from what I heard. The reason was to block an exploit which could net people a lot of money.
They would take a stack of geodes (which can be salvaged into glittering dust, rubies or sapphires) fill up their inventory so it would contain rubies and sapphires but no dust. Then they would click on the geodes. If the random generator decided the geode would be turned into dust then a message would come up saying inventory was full as there was no room for the dust, but if the geode was to be salvaged into a ruby or sapphire then it would be salvaged into it and added to the stack. Doing this you could turn 100 geodes into 100 rubies or sapphires. By forcing there to be a space in your inventory before salvaging stops this exploit.
We just have to live with the way it is now.
