Famine Ranger Woes

So I love the famine/55 uw team farm. However, I'm having problems with the grasping darkness after you take the quest. I'm not sure where I'm supposed to stand or put down my spirit. They stay on the monk for a few and then come and attack me, upon which we both die. So if anyone can help me out with this I will greatly appreciate the advice.

Monk must try to lure ONLY 1 group!
Stay with your spirits as far asu can.

My tactic:

Monk stays at spawn point of top left gropup of grasps, I lay famine near the stairs and hug wall as far of them as I can.

First group id dead before second comes to monk, they dont spread out and dont kill me
