So far I've tried several softwares on found on Google, one had it's damn website across the middle of my screen in the whole movie, the other one only allowed 5 minute per movie before ending the encoding.

I just need something that can code common video files into mp4 [mpeg4] file coding, that is free and decent.

Thanks, and cookies in advance.

(Ok, mabye not cookies)

iTunes is freeware, you dont need to have iPod to use it. There is a Mac and PC version. They support many formats.

MeGUI is a very good encoder that can also encode to mp4 but it's not a "one-click solution" to convert a file (you have to create an avisynth script and configure the codec yourself), so I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for.

Em...iTunes sadly can't, the whole reason why I'm looking for a mp4 converter is for my iPod, iTunes won't even add a movie that's mpeg into it's library, thus preventing me from uploading any movies to my iPod UNLESS I convert my movies to mp4.

Oh, and Draikin, sorry but that's not exactly what I was looking for, I need something easy, simple, add a movie, click a button, starts encoding (while I go to bed), wake up in the morning and wala.

On second thought, I might offer that cookie

BTW, it's chocolate chip :O

I don't know if this is of any use, but there's quite a few free mpeg4 converters over at SourceForge.

This one for example - http://sourceforge.net/projects/mmconvert

Just look under Multimedia > Video > Conversion.

I also found this for converting your DVD's to play on a 5th Generation iPod. Any use?

That's strange, it's working fine here both in Firefox 2.0 and IE7.

I think it's working...

But all I can select is a bunch of beta/alpha patches...

Still looking for one where I can download, install, use.

Good luck trying to get anything useful out of a Mac-based SF project. My suggestion is to pony up the dough and get QT Pro. It will allow you to save files in iPod-ready format. QT Pro is only like $30 and is very easy to use.

I wasn't trying to start something. I simply made an observation, based on my own experiences spending many fruitless hours trying to get something useful out of SF. If you're asking us to do the work for you, fine:

For Windows: http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/
For the Mac: http://www.isquint.org/

How I did it: http://www.google.com/search?q=free+...ideo+converter

Wow, that was hard. I can totally see how you got frustrated enough to be sarcastic and insulting to somebody who was offering an opinion.
