Hi all, was wondering if anyone could explain something to a newbie...

Should I ID and salvage everthing or just blue, purple and gold items ?

Im really confused because ID and salvage kids are expensive and dont know if anyone else IDs everything or just sells whites to the merchant without ID'ing.

I tried to make as much sense as I could, I'm rather confused about this

Thanks in advance

It's best to ID everything (not white stuff). Only salvage if it's worth salvaging.

Actually later in the game IDing whites increases their sale value to where you make more than the cost of IDing it and thus a profit.

Note that the small and large kits are the same, the large ones with more charges are just that, more charges for convenience. Normal salvage and expert salvage are different though, expert salvage will extract runes, upgrades, etc and also sometimes rare materials from items.

If you are short on cash then use the commendations, collectors, etc for free kits and don't buy the big ones.

Guildwiki provides all this info, google it and add it to your favorites.

It's not always a good idea to salvage everything, but it is a good idea to ID anything you find that is marked as unidentified.

The reason why I say that salvaging everything isn't always a good idea is because some items have modifiers like "precious" and "improved sale value". You get more gold out of these items when you sell them. Then there are other items which have the modifier "highly salvageable" - and it's these ones that you definitely want to salvage. You get more materials out of them, and I think you also get a better chance of getting rare materials out of them too if you're using an expert salvage kit. Other things you definitely want to ID and salvage are blue/purple/gold armor drops. These *always* contain runes, and your expert salvage kits can extract these runes. Some runes can be sold off for a huge profit as well (especially runes that are in high demand at the rune traders in the major towns)

Besides that, if you PVP, everything you ID on PVE you unlock 'for free' at PVP scenario, what is a great benefit!

Not true. ID white items as well. It always adds to the value, often 30g or something. It's not much but if you do it with all white itmes you find it quickly adds up.

You can test the white items by waiting to ID them, visit a merchant, see what he offers for an item. Then ID it and see what he offers for it.

If a 25 charge ID kit costs 100g then it costs 4g per charge to use it. You want the process of IDing whites to raise their value by more than 4g to come out ahead.
