In case you haven't heard, there is a Xunlai Tournament Representative walking around Kamadan, and he has this to say when you talk to him:

Finally, a use for the ladder for the average Guild Wars gamer, a sort of worldwide sporting event that appeals to not only the top percentage of PvP-ers. I applaud this attempt at making PvE-ers actually interested in PvP without forcing them to PvP to do what they want.

hrm seen this on the mainsite the other day sounds cool...and I guess someone "who knows" about pvp should create a seed chart for us nonpvpers so we can try to accurately pick the correct placement of different guilds.

I honestly hope Anet doesn't think this sort of thing appeals to hordes of PVE players. I think they are targeting PVP players that are in lower ranked guilds to spark discussion/competition. Why would a PVE player care about betting on the GVG ladder when they don't even know who the guilds are for the most part?

I applaud the added feature for PVP players but it will do little to garner PVE player's interest.

Actually I play mainly PvE but this sounds like a nice feature to me. I'll definetly take part in it.

Because almost every PvE player lit up the boards when it was announced that the wintergreen items would be pvp rewards, with the implication being that that would be the ONLY way to get them.

Heh, when I saw the thread title I assumed it would be something against the EULA that would promptly get locked.

Hey, fantasy sports-management games are all the rage, don'tchaknow. As for being well known, there's always Observer mode - I know I use it as a screensaver all the time!

(or alternatively, if I'm snacking and want something interesting to watch that keeps my hands free)

Pvers and PVPers will watch/bet on this for the same reason people watch/bet on football, soccer, baseball (pete rose), basketball...well u get the picture, I am not talking about the seaon games I am talking about the Playoffs and World Championship games. I for one never watch soccer but when the World Cup was going on I watched ALOT of games even tho I don't follow the sport it was still interesting. I applaud them for trying to make something that has no effect on the reason/how i play GW interesting. GOOD JOB ANET!

Sounds like a great addition to me. And yes, it will get some PvE players interested in the guild ladder. To what extant we can't tell just yet, but I can see some of those who play PvE at least taking a look at the ladder between 12/13 and 12/16.

Hmm.

So I guess the best thing now will be to see who's in the running and find some background information.

Any big PvPers want to give a quick rundown of, say, the top 10 guilds that are expected to be in this thing and their favorite playstyles? That might help us get a better idea of who we think will win.
