cant procede any farther in elona
BlackRecluse
im basically stuck in the beginners island in elona. im stuck at ~145 sunspear points, ive done all the quests and i cannot get blessings (my character is level 20). i cant do jokanur diggings because i need 170 points, but i cant get it...not sure what to do exactly
Phaedra Firesoul
how did you reach level 20 with only 145 sunspear points? is it an elonan character?
BlackRecluse
yes, it is an elonian char
DeanBB
You have done every available quest?
Phaedra Firesoul
i just dont understand how you could have made it to level 20 with only 145 sunspear points. i got off the island with my dervish almost a general (over 1,000 pts i think) already and she wasnt even level 20. you should have primary quests to follow, if you dont see any and can't enter the missions, try First Sunspear David in Kamadan. He tends to have new quests.
BlackRecluse
ive done every single quest, including every quest in explorable areas. it doesnt really matter how i got to 20, but i did and now im stuck...ill try your suggestions and comb the areas for quests i might have missed. any other advice would help. i dont feel like deleting this char..
RPGmaniac
how are you not getting blessings? i got blessings up until commander i believe, which is 1000 promo points. what areas are you trying to get blessings in? if you havn't tried it, go to mehtani keys or somewhere like that, i know they give blessings there up until commander. its in the southern part of istan.

I also can't understand how you managed to get Lv.20 with only 145 Sunspear points. Like I said above, the area on the island with the higher level enemies isn't even open to you yet. Hell if you haven't even got past Jokanur Diggings how did you get the XP to gain Lv.20?
Stormcloud
"it doesnt really matter how i got to 20, but i did and now im stuck.."
It obviously matters how you got to lvl20 as you now have 145 sunspear points and cannot get anymore.

The simplest way to gain Sunspear points is to accept bounties from the NPCs at resurrections shrines, then go farm the creatures for those bounties. My recent Elonian character is lvl 10 at Jokanur Diggings with Sunspear Captain rank. When I go on a quest run, I make a quick tour of all the res shrines in the area before proceeding, to get the bounties for each type of creature (usually plants, insects, skale and skree), then go do the quests. Any creatures along the way give double experience and sunspear points. Since you're already lvl 20, they won't give experience, but they should still give points.
BlackRecluse
ok, let me just clear up a few things:
im level 20, i only have 145 points. i have access to kamadan, great hall, astralarium, champion's dawn and jokanur diggings. every other city has a blocked gate, so i cannot enter. i have tried every possible area available, and nobody will give me blessings. and finally, ive done every quest available (im about 95% sure of this, ill have to double check..).

VGJustice
Black, I have no earthly idea how you managed to get to level 20 in those areas. Most of the monsters there are fairly low level, and the quest rewards are very low. You must have power leveled yourself on a handful of specific monsters without ever getting a blessing. Ever.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think you get more than 145 Sunspear Promotion Points with only the quests in those areas. I'd recommend going back to Kamadan and the Sunspear Great Hall and looking for ANYONE with an available quest.

I rather suspect that the level 20 part is the issue. It shouldn't be possible to get there without getting more sunspear points than that.
I do not know what he/she did but I also suspect there is a reason why they continue to say "It doesn't matter how, all that does is I am". It may be possible to do with killing the level 14 mobs in "A decayed monument", abandoning the quest, and redoing it a whole bunch. If I read the EXP tables correctly on GW a level 19 character gains some experience from them, though that falls into "game exploit". Generally speaking doing some type of exploit can have a tendency (in any game) to get you stuck and will most likely not get a "fix" by Anet (well, other than make it impossible for the next in line to do).
All I can say I look at quildwiki and see if there are any quests you haven't done. Other than that - delete them and start over.

Farming mobs linked to a quest until they no longer give you experience is an exploit now...?

No, simply killing mobs linked to a quest isn't an exploit. Completing a quest and repeatedly canceling/retaking it so you can fight more is. Much as the AFK lightbringer stuff is "simply killing things" yet is obviously and exploit (and fixed). Having the axe that could have two +enchant mods was an exploit even though it was perfectly possible in the game too.
All are obviously not intended in the game and is an abuse of the game engine, you are going so far out of what the design specs of the game are that it is neither designed to handle it or tested for. In such cases you get what you do - if it works it is luck.
Use them at your own risk. Most of the time, no problem - after all there are quite a few r7 and r8 lightbringers out there that used it to no ill effect. Farming Charr in pre-searing obviously works (and with the new title is officially sanctioned by Anet).
Other times you spend 100k+50 ecto for a crappy low level blue, or you may get what the original poster did (assuming that is what he did - having not heard from him/her that was pure speculation). Obviously if one were to farm the drakes to level 20 without doing other stuff first doesn't work (or whatever the OP did to get that far also). That's what "luck" means - sometimes you win, sometimes you do not.
Anet doesn't care if you loose your time or gold using an exploit and I can hardly blame them. This is especially true when the "fix" breaks the game for everyone not doing the exploit. When one works with no ill side effects - be happy. When one doesn't, chalk it up to doing something you were not supposed too. If you do not, you are not going to ever be happy with any game as that is the standard way of dealing with them. Be happy Anet doesn't roll exploited character back - lots of places do that.

Go to beknur harbor on the Southheast island, exit to the east and hunt skales

He/she leveled to 20 before starting Jokanur Diggings and it requires second spear sunspear level to start. There are not enough quests alone available to get to that level, some must be gotten from shrines and killing enemies which no longer give bounties at that level.
He/she does not have access to Beknur Harbor, they get have to complete Jokanur Diggings first. Anything to the left of Jokanur Diggings, from Beknur Harbor down, and from Blacktide Den down is unavailable (neither of the last two outpost is available).

this might sound stupid, but have you got your second prof ?

I guess it does speak to the annoyance of sunspear points as a requirement in Nightfall if someone can be stuck due to them. Running through almost every quest you could access, it does run you below 170 (even accounting for I might have added in a primary quest or two)
They do need to create quests with a bit higher in terms of point values, those masters quests should be double and there are so many quests without any sunspear points it is kind of annoying, if they all gave 5 at least if not say 20 for that feast of bokka one, then it would be a bit of help early on.
That I think the sunspear ranks for primary quests is a bit ridiculous, as are having heroes.

god damn it. thanks for the responses. i guess ill mail anet and wait if they update it in the future... there are several ways to get to level 20; death leveling monsters, and doing quests than cancelling. neither is/are an exploit (to gian protector of ascalon, you have to repeatedly kill charr than cancel the quest, and repeat. this is not an exploit in the least). i actually used neither of those, but i dont want to give it away. this really sucks.

Is it possible to take "armor ferry" to Consulate docks, and then get in mission?
Or will he be kicked for not having done the other missions and quests?
I guess he's need to join at least ONE other person doing the mission, since he won't be able to activate it....

Phaedra Firesoul
no, you have to have done the main quests that trigger the missions. i tried entering the mission with a guildie and couldnt until he accepted reward for the main quest before that mission.

If it isn't an exploit then it's working as intended - no need to fix anything.
At one time Anet considered hunting Charr in pre-sear an exploit - remember when they made the creatures quit gaining exp on your death? It wasn't until very recently that their attitude on that changed and I rather suspect that the novelty of having a level 20 in pre-sear had more to do with that than anything. In almost every case where something like this is found, they close it. I rather suspect that you also understand this, hence not telling your "secret" - there is no novelty in having a level 20 on Istan, you are already one in a sea of them.
Maybe you will get lucky and they will increase some rewards - IMO you should be able to progress the game by doing quests only anyway.

i am 100% positive how i got to level 20 was not an exploit, and i wasnt trying to be cute, and prove how much better i am. it was simply convenience, and did not take up a large amount of time. im going to keep my character and wander around triple-checking for quests..
Loviatar
if i am not wrong the bounty given was 2X exp .
that should mean you can still go out and get points just without the exp bounty.
in your case the only one who could tell is you from going out and killing things that used to give points and dont now.
only suggestion i have

Complete Nightfall Quests
I'm going to have to throw the B.S. Flag here!

1. If you only complete the Istan Primary Quests (without any Sunspear bounty(ies)) = 185 Sunspear Points Awarded (Second Spear). If you are level 20 (without the rank of Second Spear or Sunspear Captain), I would have to assume you:
2. If you complete EVERY Istan Quest ((without any Sunspear bounty(ies) & Not including Master Quest(s) ... they do not award sunspear) = 535 Sunspear Points Awarded (Sunspear Captain).
1. Used another account or had a friend to pull you through Istan. Maybe you want the "Survivor title"?Regardless, I do not see how you can have completed EVERY quest without gaining Rank of Sunspear Captain. If you are sincerely stuck, then I suggest you provide more details or voice your concern with http://support.plaync.com. Good Luck.
and/or
2. Used Scrolls.
BlackRecluse
i never said i completed every quest on the island, i jsut said that i did every available quest in the 5 towns(and explorable areas) that i had access to.

So the NPC at the shrine north of Joknapur Diggings won't give you a bounty? How about heading NW in Zehlon Reach onto the northern peninsula? There are a bunch of shrines spread out in the Zehlon Reach area, which can be accessed from Joknapur, Astralarium and the Cliffs of Dojhok.
I noticed that when my char got to level 8 that the NPC outside of Kamadan wouldn't give me bounties when I left from Kamadan, but that all of the other ones in the Plains area would if I entered from a different location. Maybe there's one in Zehlon Reach that will. Worth a shot.

TwinRaven
Keep in mind, there are several quests given by NPCs outside of towns and outposts. I'm not sure what triggers them, but there are some in the southeast island chains that I beleive you may be able to run to. And in those "bog lands" where all the damned skale are...shooing away some troublesome flamingos comes to mind.
My advice, since you're lvled up and all...run the map edgewise...like a maze. Follow a left hand or right hand route and spiral out ans see if there are any portals you may have missed and areas containing NPCs you haven't met yet...pretty much the strategy I used to get every % possible for my map title. All you have to do is find an NPC with a quest for you hidden away somewhere in an explorable area...hopefully, they don't have to be triggered by what you don't have.
Hope you make it....be a shame to have to delete your character.

Looking through some of the quests, it seems like doing all the ones in the areas you have access to should bring you to around 200 Sunspear points, possibly more.
What I wonder is why you went through the trouble of somehow becoming level 20 while completing as little of the game as possible. There's no title that I know of and you're not going to be special since there's no pre-searing equivalent. It must have taken forever too, especially without bounties. Were you going for the "Sunspear Slacker" title?

1. If you just follow ONLY the Primary Quests (185 Sunspear Points)By doing both Primary and Ancillary Quests (without taking any Bounty), you will have sufficient amount of Sunspear Points to complete every mission on Istan Island and will be able to go to the mainland. If you are still having problems, why not play the game normally and you will discover that you can progress through the game very effectively.
AND
2. If you do both Primary and Ancillary Quests (535 Sunspear Points)

lol @ throttle, it wasnt so much the accomplishment as it was convenience. ill admit i didnt really think it through, although i didnt realise i couldnt get blessings and the quests werent enough to put me over 175..
chief, i dont want to get into anything with you, but your wrong. i know your wrong, actually im positive your wrong because my character is stuck at 145 points. you obviously misread the post where i said i did every quest in every area, because obviously if i did every quest i would get much more than 175 points. you just calculated the available points wrong.
i also love how you make braod sweeping generalizations about how your supossed to play the game. i bought it and ill play anyway i see fit.

I wonder, is it possible to make a Nightfall character and then move to one of the earlier chapters and level up there, thus becoming level 20 with very little progression through Istan?

maybe because you are not telling how did you do it, it could help prevent others from doing the same thing, or perhaps allow others to test it and see if it really works.
but about the pic, its too blurry. and how come you reduced your title window?

i reduced it because the other titles arent worth seeing (10% explored, 1/20 prot., pathetic lucky/unlucky titles...). everything you asked for is right up there.i blurred it because i didnt want people to see the ign(i really dont care actually).

That is a total of 165 points possible. (Chief, he can't do primary quests that require Jokanur Diggings, nor can he do quests requiring a Sunspear Rank of Second Spear or higher.) There are a few ways to get to level 20 at that point, so how it was done is irrelevant.
