Prophecies / Factions content - not a rant

I loved Prophecies. Loved it so much i bought Factions.
However it saddens me that the original game as died - stopped growing. There was so much that could be done, so much to know, so many new oportunities to explore.

So the question is simple, ANet, and not rantish - Is there going to be any new pve content (like missions, quests, uber-elite zones, whatever) to the original game?

Or did it just die? Was it just a normal game that wouldn't fit into a DVD or will it evolve?

Please, an honest answer.

(and no flaming please - just caring about a game i love)

however Nightfall made up for it.

no i didnt even get past the underground of that ugly city.

did i say i love taking my heroes back to tour chapter 1?

and no new content on old chapters as announced much earlier

No, there will, most likely, not be any new content for Ch1 or Ch2.

Think of it from a business perspective. Anet does not charge a monthly fee to play the game. They make their money off of providing new chapters on a frequent and regular basis. There is very little financial incentive for them to do anything with old chapters beyond bug fixes and game balances. Sure, they MIGHT sell a few more copies of Ch1 if they advertise some new area that has been added, but it would not offset the cost of producing that new area.

I know some people will rant about Anet carring only about money, but the fact is they are a company, not a charity or group of hobby developers. The company was founded to make money, they do that by providing the best possible play experiace at the lowest possible cost and charging the highest possible market price. Thats business.

And the people who work at Anet are not evil money grubbers, nor are they alturistic (sp?) saints looking to change the gameing world at any cost. They are hard working stiffs like you and me who just happen to have the greatest job in the world.

That was more of a "rant" then I intended it to be, sorry about that.

what does the future hold for Guild Wars?

"We will continue to fully support Guild Wars and Guild Wars Factions with balance changes and features, like new ways to join parties," said Strain.

"We will not, however, be working on new missions... those sorts of things will be part of new campaigns.
as ANET adds more chapters,
people will bring their new chars to older chapters
- I know I do

They already answered the question in the original post when Factions came out. The answer was something like that they will only fix bugs in older chapters but not add any new content to them.

Basically, there is no way to predict what ANet will or won't do in the future. At this point in time, I don't think even the company could give a definite answer, which is why they give no answer when asked about expanding Prophecies.

If you buy a can of Coke and drink it... Do think Coca Cola should have to add some more Coke to your can?

No.

I would imagine that Prophecies is selling F.A. Copies now... If ANET make their money off your original purchase, why would you need to spend time and effort adding new content to a product that will return you nothing?

Common sense really.

No financial incentive? Couldn't they develop additional Tyria/Cantha/Elona (or maybe all three at once) content and sell it as an expansion?

Please no expansion, for an expansion people think, and rightfully so that you should only have to pay half the cost of the game then full price. Also they would have take a group of people off the main team for the expansion to be made, also im not sure if there would be enough support for it.

They could have addons and add it to the the online store it will give them something else to do and maybe hire a few ppl to do it.Chaprer 1 seems to be the most Popular of all of the 3 right I wonder why even in sales.

They could have fan added content in the form of a Mod which is not agianst the EULA.

Yeah sometimes on the cap it informs me that I've one another bottle which makes me want to keep purchasing that brand.

Thing is getting new people to buy the game is just as important as keeping the older fans intrested. Whats the point of getting new players if all the older players quit? That means they'll be making the same ammount of money as before instead of doubling it from their old players and new players both buying the chapters.

I'm not saying that they should spend all their time adding content to old chapters but a little bit here and here can't hurt. Doesn't need to be big.

The bad thing with all these new continents is that everyone is too spread out, the older chapters will just die when the new ones come. Kinda sucks to see prophecies go inactive when it was the best chapter.

Yes, there is financial incentive to SELL new content, but I think the OP was refering to free "sorrows furnace" style updates. We wont see any more of that for the old chapters.

The thing is, with their business plan, having old players leave is not that big of deal, as long as they are selling NEW chapters. From strictly a financial standpoint, if a player from Chapter1 is not going to buy Chapter 2 or 3, Anet would be better off (financialy) if they left the game completly.

Repeat customers are important, but old customers hanging on to the old model and not upgrading....in the long run ANet is probably better off with out them. (not that this is ANets actual viewpoint, just trying to be devils advocate).

I don't know about you, but I still have 3 charactors in Prophesies. I have not seen a serous drop of players. Some of the minor outposts are nearly deserted and the major cities have a FEW less districts then they used to, but nothing that has effected my gameplay. Have even started to see Dervs and Paragons all over Tyria.

People point to every change as bringing GW down. It's Spiritual Pain's fault. It's 6v6 HA's fault. It's the SS-scattering AI update's fault. It's Searing Flames' fault. It's the first AOE update's fault. It's the Spirit Bond update's fault. It's the first thumper nerf's fault. It's touch rangers' fault.

The only two things I've seen people REALLY get infuriated over are the two major farming nerfs (the two AI updates) and turning HA to 6v6. Yet ironically, as soon as I step off these forums, I get plenty of other players who like the HA change to 6v6 since now IWAY is toast and the whole place isn't dominated by spike.

If anything brings down GW, as I stated in the other thread, it's telling people that they need to shell out $50 for another chapter because the one they're in doesn't have the skills they need to be viable. As the series grows, the barrier to entry to get the most out of certain classes is only going to get higher, which is very discouraging to new players. GW can afford to lose old players if it attracts new ones, but it can't afford to lose new ones who get discouraged when they find out they need to pay $50 for Eviscerate.

I dunno about needing every skill.

Anyone tried to play for a wile using nothing but core classes/skills? I wanna bet you can still counter everything.

At any given time, there are a handful of really, really popular builds and skill combos. Some skills are practically essential for many of them, i.e. Rodgort's (prior to SF anyway), SF itself, inspired hex, blessed light, spoil victor, eviscerate, crippling shot, etc.

It's fairly difficult to make a decent build that only uses one chapter worth of skills unless it's a Paragon or Dervish. Or MAYBE a monk... from Cantha. Even Assassins are hard to field without Feigned Neutrality.

shh before they get mad about all the complaining and make us pay monthly. i could be wrong but i dont remember when i bought this game seeing anything that said for 50 bucks they had to keep adding to the game for free to keep me entertained for the rest of my life. i surely didnt expect it and think what anet does for us now is way above any expectaions i ever had.
GIVE THEM AN INCH AND THEY WANT A MILE
