The first guild wars had a medieval theme to it. (As almost every other MMORPG)
Then Factions came out and had a more oriental theme to it.
And now Nightfall has a nice African/Egyptian theme to it..

so what theme should the next one take?

I'd say steampunk, or something resembling the Setting to final fantasy 6...
