I had just read the thread about monthly fees and everything.. and I thought. Well, people probably do do this, I dunno if there's one on the guild wars site, but a donate to anet button ingame might be a good suggestion, rather than paying a monthly fee. Or on the guild wars website if there isn't one already.
donate to anet

Arenanet is doing just fine financially. The only reason people are starting these monthly fee threads is to try to get Arenanet to add more content and for some reason think monthly fees will accomplish that. Donations are a generally unsuccessful way to get money for a business.
Also, it helps to have a thread title that's more than just "Hello".

Alot of people ask for things(Austrailian server, new language-specific districs, ect, so how about this? A button in the in-game store that will let you donate $1-5(US) for the purchase of a new server(or more bandwidth), to help ease lag/disconnects. Its not solely a monetary problem, Im sure ANet has/can get plenty, but the money raised would be for a specific purpose. A LOT of money could be raised for bandwith/server purpchases this way(2 million sales, say 500,000 actually play(gift purchaes, ect), that $500,000 right there at $1 each, a VERY small amount to give, and can be done at any time, as opposed to waiting for new chapter to come out, or spending time looking for an older one.

Insane idea. Sorry. I don't donate extra payments to my telephone company and I sure as hell don't pay extra to the people who I buy hot dogs from just because they 'might' need it.
All this talk of Anet needing money, I've no idea where it's coming from
Keep in mind also that any 'donations' would be taxable as income, why not just send the shareholders a cheque directly?

If Anet had a monthly fee, they would be required to produce more content more steadily. Popping out an expansion every six months wouldn't work, they would have to have regular updates and consistently stream new content to the gamers. Anet is based on the free to play system, and any sort of donations would not get us results comparable to if GW was P2P.
People are assuming that it takes a monthly maintenance to upkeep a game online, it does require monthly capitol, but good investors know how to create capitol and provide service without charging monthly fees.
If GW expands to new areas, or adds new features, they will charge for it in the chapter that they come in, or turn revenue from the sales of their chapters in new places, this is not the first game to provide online gaming service without a monthly fee, Blizzard has been doing it since the internet became popular, and Anet is a detached group from Blizzard, they know what they are doing.
If you want to donate something, or in some way support the game more, you can always buy extra copies of the game and buy extra character slots and PvP packs, Anet will gain plenty of capitol from sales, and provides almost nothing additional in terms of bandwidth and service in the sales of character slots and PvP unlocks.
"Donate" all you want, but if your trying to bribe Anet into including some new feature, I am pretty certain they will choose to make their money selling to their overall fanbase rather than a private interest.

Why on earth would u just want to give money to a very succesful top video game making company...i mean..think about what u are saying and think about what you are asking ppl to do. i..really just dont understand it lol do you have like a huge conscience or are just really into giving b/c christmas is coming ...idk but i would never do this. its like donating part of your paycheck to bill gates b/c you think he may need it.
oh and ye i agree giving them more money will not make improvements.....it will just renforce the idea that they will keep making 1 more game. i mean how many more do you think will come, its already streched enough i think.

It seems some people may have thought that I was saying in my previous post that ANet "needs the money". I have NO idea how that happened, as I was saying nothing of the kind. Im sure weve all had/heard/know of people who have had lag/disconnects, and all I was suggesting in my earlier post is that if we want it so bad, to prove it to ANet by saying, "Hell, we want better servers/more bandwidth enough that we'll pay for it." Sure, they can afford it, but is it on the "To do list"? Probably not. Maybe theyd say, "If they want it THAT bad, why not? They put up the money, lets do it." And I DAMN sure didnt mean a monthly fee! I wont touch those kind of games, beyond a free trial period). I said before that ANet has plenty of money, so I dont know where alot of this comes from, but what I m suggesting ISNT A MONTHLY FEE, its basically putting your money where your mouth is. If we want better/new servers enough that we're willing to pay for them ourselves, thatll get their attention, Id think.
