This is my first time coloring one of my sketches with Paint Shop Pro7. I would like to try it with Photoshop CS2, but I can't find this tool that Paint Shop has. Anyways, here's the picture of my Warrior, enjoy.

That looks more like a Mesmer with the attire.

I'd further comment but i'd get banned on 15 pretenses and get slapped with an in-game sexual offense.

Well, my warrior likes being a Mesmer Secondary so that would explain it?

Very true.

It seems I forgot to leave white spaces in her eyes...I'll have to fix that tomorrow and I might even have another drawing colored up by then

Barely warrior related, obviously aiming for nothing more than to be vaguely sexually suggestive, generally nothing or little to do with Guild Wars...... Well i like it!

It's related to Guild Wars because it's a colored up picture of my Warrior.

There's a difference between being prude and recognizing gratuity.

I think the problem is, that there are no visual clues to tell the viewer that the character is a warrior. I'm a firm believer in making images speak for themselves. I usually give a commentary for my pictures as I post them; however, it is my hope, that even without my words, people would get the idea behind the image.

Now if I were to look at your picture with my art critic hat on (warning, wearers of these hats are known to sound like pompous and arrogant swines, I advise against wearing them) I would make a few observations. First off, I’d notice that she is an attractive busty maiden, that is the first thing I see when looking at the image. Secondly, her tears, along with her expression and lack of protection (both physical and, it would seem, emotional) leaves her vulnerable looking, something not usually associated with a strong warrior type. Now if she were wearing a different set of cloths/armour, some spiky shoulder pads, a sword perhaps - anything that lent her some weight or fighting spirit – I might see her differently. Stereotypes and Archetypes may not always be something we want to pander to in our works, but you have to be aware of them, before you can play around and bend them. As it stands, the lovely young anime maiden before us is ticking all the “Damsel in Distress” boxes, and none of the “Warrior Woman” boxes.

Now if you wanted to show a more tender and emotional side of your warrior, good on you I say. Perhaps she just realised how many DoA gems she needs to get a torment weapon, that’d be enough to break even the strongest of warriors into blubbering wrecks. However, personally I’d have included some kind of iconic Guild Wars material (15k warrior armour, a recognisable weapon, maybe even a backdrop). As she is now, she could be one of a million anime girls, she is somewhat indistinct, though undoubtedly pleasing on the eyes

*Takes off art critic hat*

See! I told you these bloody things had side effects >_<

See! I told you these bloody things had side effects >_< Actually, that critic you just typed up was kind of funny to me. No person is able to wear armor all day and night especially my own Warrior. She has wants and needs you know. Wearing armor all day isn't something she likes, imagine the smell after fighting through hordes of Hekets and Margonites for half a day.

The reason she's not wearing any armor is because she's off to bed. Have to wear something comfortable before going into bed right? Now the tears...I think what you said is pretty true.

I do have a sketch of my character in armor but I'll have to color it tomorrow, I already invested some time in another drawing I was coloring.

Not only did it take less time with Photoshop CS2, but I could make shadows and highlights more realistic compared to using Paint Shop Pro 7.

the neck is strange looking, is the hair covering up the neck or is it just bordering the neck perfectly...it seems like the neck is enlarged--too big for a girl
pretty much the whole head seems skewed if you look at it...try staring at the head instead of her chest guys...it's supposed to be art, treat it like art

EDIT: also is it just me or does the dress seem to...erm... tuck in

It does indeed tuck in, but as far as "treat it like art" goes - I agree to an extent, but bear in mind that these aren't meant to be critique forums for professional artists either.

OP: I think your explanation is really more of a justification. The point is that there's only a very, very loose connection between the character you've portrayed and the one you're claiming to protray. If you drew her taking off her armour over a pile of dead skale, that would be one thing, but as it is you've just drawn a generic portrait and called it your warrior. I don't think anyone could look at this piece out of the context of this forum and tell me that it was a drawing of a female warrior in a relaxing moment out of her armor. If that's what you actually intend to portray, you need to make that more evident in the piece itself.

I'm reluctant to post again, because it almost feels like I'm bashing your work, which I don't want to do. I think it's a fine picture, and I don't want my comments to detract from that. I mean no offence with my comments, and in general, I don't critique people's work unless they ask. However, I was just trying to say why I felt (and probably a few other posters) that she didn't live up to her title of "Warrior Artwork". Perhaps if instead of being introduced as simply a profession, she'd been introduced as a character, (maybe a title like... "Illia Thorn gets ready for bed") with a brief mention of her warrior profession, people would have been more accepting ^_^

But don't get bogged down in people telling you what's wrong with it, and how THEY would do it. Basically, we're all just backseat drivers telling you how to drive. Just draw what you want to draw, if you feel that the points they've made are good ones, then do somthing about it, if you don't think they are valid, screw em! So long as your work is looking how you want it to, that's all that matters
