BUG: Malformed Character Model (Needs to be fixed by the game developers)

I've made an effort to contact the boys at NC Soft directly through their knowledge base thing. While they replied really fast, the reply was that I should post on community boards which aren't even officially affiliated with NC Soft, and just hope that a developer comes across my topic and decides to fix it.

Anyways, I'll just paste what I sent them, since I don't wanna have to type it a second time.

I know, most of you may think this is completely ridiculous. However, I find it unfair that I beat Nightfall (which I hated, and beat it only for that endgame mask) and then to find out that my hair sticks through it! Those damn warriors get special attention when it comes to their lame little pony tails not sticking through their FOW helmets, and I can't wear my little devil mask without my bangs sticking out of it? What's more, the knowledge base makes me post on forums instead

Flame all you want for my stupid, seemingly insignificant suggestion, but really I'm just hoping to get the attention of a Developer with this, even though I'm sure there's a slim chance that they actually look around these forums.

There's always been little problems like this, sorry to say, but I don't think they'll be fixing it.

Wow, that's really minor, I would be more concerned about how pale your Mesmer's skin is.

Seriously, the amount of hair poking through is tiny and pretty much unnoticeable.

i suppose i can understand how that might bother you, but i would be much happier if the dev team would look at the issues that complicate play, and such minor graphical glitches should definately take a back seat.

Most classes have small bugs with their armor (yes, even warriors). Your example is very minor compared to some of the things around. For example, the ritualist Ancient armor from Nightfall simply can't be combined with most other armors because then it cuts off a piece of the waist or has feet missing from knee to hip.

Have you noticed that when a character is wearing a hat, or a helmet that covers the entire head, the character's hair simply disappears? Even long hair doesn't stick out from the armor, because it simply isn't there anymore. Now, in the case of masks and other things that are in front of the face (like elementalists little forehead trinkets) the hair stays. That's why warriors don't have as many hair-problems as mesmers. Their character simply goes bald when wearing helmets, which really doesn't trouble the player at all since they can't see what their character's head looks like under all that metal. Same thing goes for ritualists and their headwraps, and the special Halloween hats you get from the event. You can even test this with a long haired character and the witch hat.
Which is kind of an annoyance in itself... what if you wanted to show off your character's lovely long hair thought that nice new helmet?

Would you like your mesmer to go bald just so he wouldn't have a tiny hair poking through this mask?

And why not exactly? There's nothing stopping a player from sending a support ticket asking for that particular feature of yours to be considered, I'm sure someone's done it.

Anyway, Anet have a once-in-a-blue-moon edit of all character models, They had an update of all of them fairly recently, not sure how long ago, about a few months or so. They might have another one soon enough. There's plenty of Model flaws to go around.

The 15k Warrior platemail collar piece sticking through the Pumpkin Crown and wrist piece sticking through the lion shield is just as annoying as what is listed in the original post.

Please fix that too.

Similarly, male Dervish Elonian "skirts" have major clipping issues with most scythe handles, and male Assassins have some seriously malformed spines.

...Yeah, there's still a few problems like this around.

while we're on this topic...i'm irritated that my lady dervish's beautiful long ponytail gets cut off by my guild cape guess she's gotta go with the reaper look, rather than the egyptian goddess look i was going for. :/

My armor goes through the Tribal Shield skin. Fix please.

i think the cape/collar clash on the 10k mesmer male armor is much more noticable and time-worthy than that. you shoulda taken a screenie with the Dye Preview with a lighter color, like white, because I cant see what youre talking about here - my prophecies hair style goes under masks

yeah, my point isnt to accentuate this seemingly minor issue as a major issue, but kinda hoping if my cause gets heard by anet and possibly fixed, the next step would be fokr them to adress other seemingly minor anomalies, the result of which is a bunch of much happier gamers =)

we should get a petition going for most of these suggestions, maybe to show just how important they are to the gaming communities and how much thyese chjanges woulsd be appreciated by the guild wars fans.

clipping errors are WAY WAY WAY on the bottom of Anet's to do list.

They dont break the game. They dont crash your pc. They dont disconnect you from the server.

as much as these things are annoying, i dont think they will get fixed. Theres just too many different variables that exist with the armors and weapons to make sure EVERYTHING fits correctly without any clipping.

Errors that disconnect, freeze, or crash your pc... yeah ok. It's been proven time after time that these have to do with people being poor, not being able to afford decent hardware, and then blaming it on Guild Wars, which is in fact one of the most stable mmos to date in terms of resource management. I've NEVER been disconnected, NEVER have my game crash, and NEVER have had any performance related problem, and all of my hardware is at least 2 years old. In other words, if you have lag issues you need one of the following:

a) a bettter ISP
b) better hardware
c) if you can't afford to play this game with proper system specs so people don't have to wait on you to connect, STOP PLAYING

I'll restate the fact that model errors would be ridiculoulsy easy to fix. FAR easier than getting every noob to stop complaining about "OMG LAG" when it's their own fault.

If any dev is reading this, please adress my cause =P I've spent over 300 bucks on your products and i deserve some recognition. ESPECIALLY since the problem i've adressed is concerning your newest expansion to date which you have been actively promoting all this time.

Since nobody from the knowledge base seems to care, I'm gonna post this on all of the other guild wars fan sites in hopes of getting heard.

No, its not always the players fault or the ISP. Yes those two things are a big part of it, but not ALL the time. It's good that you've never had problems, but some of us with good pcs, and good ISPs get errors and crash anyway.

My pc is only a few months old (Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz, 2 gigs of ram, Radeon X1900XT 256MB) and Guild Wars gave me my first critical error just a few weeks ago.

Please, don't generalize based on YOUR own experience.

the key words in a lot of those updates are "infrequent" and "some."

And compared to INFREQUENT crashes, and crashes which only happen to SOME players... these have to be THOROUGHLY tested by an empirical means. You'd have to narrow down the source of such crashes before you can fix them. With models however, making changes is far easier than revising the source code of the game. Yes I've modeled and mapped before, which kind of makes me better than you if you haven't =)

Don't come back and say you've been modeling since you were 2 years old, cause then I'd further call you out for thinking aesthetic things are harder to fix than issues related to SOME INFREQUENT crashes.

First off, just cause you list those specs, it MUST mean you actually have them. I know if i bought a 1900xt (completely shit choice for gaming, considering the nvidia cards which were available 2 months ago) I'd be playing newer releases than guild wars.

Also, how much of a noob you are has a high impact on your crashes. For example, spyware, adware, using an AV such as NIS, AVG, or Mcafee, might be even higher contributors than shitty hardware. The same goes with not knowing how to configure your own (in your case high end) crap. Like having fast writes on when you're not supposed to, using the CATALYST drivers instead of the far more optimized (especially for the x1900 series) OMEGA drivers, etc.

I say noob because i often get people in my guild going like OMG IT CRASHED DO I CLICK SUBMIT?!?@!#

Yes, generalizing from my own experiences. Why? Because frankly my experiences are more relevant than yours are.

And it IS relevant, not cause i spent so much money on this game, but because it is THEIR NEWEST EXPANSION (it WAS a nightfall mask, after all) this issue probably hasn't been addressed before which is why I'm bringing it up now

I have 3d modeling experience as well. Ive made 3d animations and video effects for an educational film used in a kiosk at the geological exhibit in one of the local musems. My experience is irrelevant as well, since my 3d applications have been on film and video animations and not game based.

Your problem, is not game breaking. You wanna see a really annoying mesh error? Look at my monk:



You can take off your mesmer's mask. I can't take off my monk's face or hide it.

Do I care enough to report it? Not really. I dont look at my monk's face in battle, i look at the energy bars. My monk's aesthetic appeal is less important than her performance.

Please don't even infer or allude that im a noob in any way, or talk down at me. It makes me violent.

My crash occured at Tomb of Primieval Kings, the 3rd map. Me and my fellow guildmate got the same critical error at the same time in the same instance.

And yes i reported that error. However, i dont really care if they fix it or not, since its only on that one map, and its a completely optional area.

Again. Its not gamebreaking. Even if it crashes player's clients.

It's annoying, but its not a priority. It's not game breaking.


Oh btw, you know why those pony tails dont show through the FoW helmets for warriors?

THEY REMOVE THE HAIR WHEN YOU WEAR A HELMET.

The warriors dont get any special attention. Their hair is removed completely to prevent clipping errors. Same thing with dervishes and their hoods. You cant do that with a mesmer who wears a mask, unless you wanna be bald...

Theres nothing wrong with wanting this to be fixed. Just don't hold your breath and quit whining like its the end of the friggin world. Theres far more important things. So please learn to accept that in the greater scheme of things, your problem is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT.

You did the best you could on the screen shot and we still had a hard time seeing it. I don't think that's on the top of anets list.

What bothers me is that the male paragon and dervish wear skirts. What the hell is that about?
