Ranger/Necromancer - Touch Build - PvP
Sowaka
Yes, another build thread by me! And more questions @_@
Okay, so I've been frequenting the Alliance Battles alot lately and I find that touch rangers are near impossible to stop, you cant defend or prevent damage from their attacks and they heal while harming you! Not to mention how they can spam the touch skills!
So I've been wondering, what would be a good build or a few skills to consider using if I wanted to create one of these bastards? I have a Vanahk's Staff which should suffice as a weapon for the touch ranger and I'm guessing that I should get a Rune of Major Blood Magic and a Rune of Minor Expertise for this with 12 points into expertise and 12 into blood magic?

Touch rangers are effective against players that don't understand them.
They are easy for anyone who can run away. Simply crippling them is generally enough to wipe the rest of the grou out, then focus fire on the ranger.
If you want to build one the builds are everywhere, but essentially you need vamp bite, vamp touch, offering of blood and some defensive stuff. Optionally things like Vamp Gaze, Life Siphon etc, but they aren't strictly necessary.
If you use one, get used to being taunted by players who play with any skill, as they'll cripple/kite you while their buddies kill you.

Sowaka, I think you misunderstood something: if you make a R/N, you cannot use necro runes. When I used to touch, I went 16 expertise and 12 blood magic.

if your up against one and dont have the right skills to kill them, its just simple to avoid them because they cant do much against moving targets. kind of silly, but its your only option.
build--16 expertise, 12 blood
skills--awaken the blood, vamp touch, vamp bite, offering of blood, whirling defense, dodge, blood renewal, throw dirt.
it can be changed a tiny bit with optional skills being throw dirt and blood renewal. what i used to do is take life siphon and spam it on many many targets to have alot of health regen.

While facing them I was using a Air Magic ele, my only defence against them was to use gale which would give me a quick three seconds to make an escape, although the touch rangers would often use a skill to boost their speed and catch up to me.
Would it still be worthwhile to make one though? I find that almost every class has its own flaw and most close-combat builds are in danger of being crippled anyways.
And I totally forgot that each rune could only be used by it's own class XD

Generally, touchies also bring dodge, whirling defense, throw dirt, and plague touch.
So here are a few tips when you face one:
- Touch skills (their attack) will both deal damage and heal them. They generally rely on that (or a monk, erm...) for self healing as they don't carry any other healing skill. That's not attacks so blind or defensive stances like WD won't work against them. Use Throw Dirt on them, they're going to use Plague touch to blind you. But if you distract one of those 2 skills (which should be really easy as they keep spamming them), you divide their efficiency by 2. Distract both and they can't do anything but wanding you.
- Do NOT use conditions on them unless they are crippled and not adjacent to any of your allies, as they will use plague touch to get rid of it (however a cripshoter with apply poison to cover the crippling and allies knowing how to kite could get around that).
- Degen and kitting is very efficient. Still keep in mind touchies have speed boosts so they're likely to catch you if they're not crippled.

Yes, prepare for a never ending stream of taunts and insults from players getting owned by a toucher. I've often seen most of the opposing team leave as soon as they see R/N. Even your own team may taunt and curse at you. I think it's absolutely hilarious to watch people whine, bitch, and moan about a toucher. Most of the taunting comes from players who just can't stand to be beaten by a possibly less-skilled player. PvPers hate this build so much because it allows less experienced PvP players to get some kills. Don't bother taunting them back for running away - it's their only option. The situation is analogous to the whammos who whine because a mesmer won't fight them face-to-face, but keeps getting owned nevertheless. The build is still very useful in places like Fort Aspenwood to quickly rack up some faction. If it gets to you, just turn off the chat channels.

this has got to be what, touch ranger thread number 1,074,637, right?
lets sum up those threads right here and close this:
touch ranger > bad players (i.e. wammo tank with mending and dolyak in RA)
touch ranger = a sort of ok player
touch ranger < slighty above average player
touch ranger <<< good player
kite. for the love of god, learn to kite.

I was a bit discouraging, because a) I don't like them, b) there are strong counters to them, c) you learn little by playing them.
That said, I've played them in PvE and in PvP. As mentioned, if you have nothing to counter them with (snares in particular, energy denial, skill denial) your best bet is to kite them, reducing their effectiveness.
It's not to bash them, but if you make one you will find that they have weaknesses like many other builds. Luckily, you only need one dumb player per group to have someone to kill, and you are virtually assured that someone will decide to face you, swinging away like a moron with their Dolyak signet up... Anyway, info is provided, give it a whirl. My mesmer loves touchers anyway.

In AB it's funny how often a toucher will follow you without hesitation into shrines full of your NPCs. Guess the same could be said for some wammo's, too.
Just a note, don't even think about adding additional touches like wallow's bite and crap, simply beacuse doing so isn't efficient unless you plan on getting your bite/touch shutdown repeatedly...

"n00b toucher get some damn skill blah blah blah"...if you cant beat a toucher, just avoid them. although i do love it when i own touchers on my assassin-expose defenses and knockdown arent their cup of tea =P

diversion / slow = dead toucher
pretty much the same with any melee type build apart form diversion , eg a warrior can be slowed making him useles

I took a full touch ranger team (one monk) into hero battle. very intresting... I won by alot. (he capped one healing shrine half way through the game which I promtly took back). If I had been fighting anyone good with crippling, I can promise you the outcome would have been different.
VB, VT, OOB, ZH, PT, TD, trolls, res
The defensive skills can definatly be changed around, so play with them. Touch rangers can be a fun build, but don't let the whiners get to you. Also don't get discouraged by losing too much.
