It's insulting and patronizing, no question, but in reality I suspect it's just an attempt by Anet to protect themselves from the kind of nonsense lawsuits negligent parents like to levy against anyone and everything they think they can blame for the behavior of their little brats.

First of all, it's not that one message every hour annoys me, it's the fact that I'm repeatedly told to "take a break" from a game I've paid for. And not only that, but it'll tell me to do so after just two hours. As someone else said, it's a patronizing attitude to give a grown-up person, and it's more the fact that it's there without the option to disable it that bugs me. Your TV doesn't tell you to turn it off every hour, and the coca cola bottle doesn't tell you not to drink it. If the reason for this is that a select few countries have laws determining how much you can play, it should be limited to those districts or to products purchased in those countries. Or, alternately, the option to turn it off (along with PvP scores, while we're at it).

Wow. People will compain about anything and everything. Patronizing and insulting? Annoying? Geezus.

Why are you all taking the message so personally? If you're not playing too much then ignore it. The message is there for the for the "over enthusiastic" players. Probably the same people who complain about the game being boring after they've played the game 15 hours straight everyday for months and months.

Until I see a moderator posting a rule that says we need their approval to start a thread concerning a valid issue you're simply flaming, and last time I checked, there actually was a rule against that. I do agree it is annoying even when you do log out and are sitting at the log in screen to switch char.s it still says you have been playing xx amount of hours.The only way and that is to exit the server.It is not even aware when you put the away sign on for an hour to take a break.

It was half serious and half test to see how you'd respond when someone insults you back. And I believe I'm closer to the truth than you are when you bring up completely judgmental things like "probably the same people who complain about the game being boring after they've played the game 15 hours straight everyday for months and months". As long as you and other people like you continue to post useless comments like the one you so eagerly contributed with above, I'll happily respond, but with what has so far proven to be truth.

And to stay on your level, don't you have anything better to complain about than other people's valid concerns? Do you play this game every day for 15 hours, or <insert other personal insult here>?

Yeah, it couldn't have anything to do with Guild Wars being playable in China and China wanting games there to tell you to take a break after one hour, purely coincidental and American in nature

Why not take the step further and temporarily ban their accounts so they can get on to "live their lives" and "play Anet's copyrighted content" at a slower pace?

After all Anet owns all rights to the game, they can certainly dictate to you how many hours you are allowed to play per month.

The only problem I have with it is the innacuracy...

I made a fresh pvp char, played around, then idle'd for an hour or two. Came back, sat for 5mins, and the 'blah blah 5 hours blah blah' came up. typed /age...

5 hours 42 minutes... yup, real good indicator.

Doesnt hurt any, but if it is there for a reason, why not make it accurate at least?

"All this" isn't because of "one insignifacant sentence". It's because of idiots who came rushing in to flame and attack the OP for what he said. There are far more "one sentence every hour is extremely annoying?!?" type responses than anything else. Hell, ONE WAS FROM A MODERATOR!

The people who have been rude and insulting about the post itself far outweigh the few people who have commented that they also don't like it. And the ones who have weighed in that they don't like it were calm and constructive and made points about how it feels patronizing and insulting, etc.

But how many people only jumped in JUST for the purpose of saying how lame it was that the OP was bothered by this? Or to insult the people who are bothered as being somehow weak losers for letting such a little thing bother them. And nothing else of any constructive help at all.

I mean.. how they hell is that constructive or helpful at all? What purpose does it serve? It's only purpose is to shame and put down the people who feel differently than they do. What, so, are we supposed to say "OMG I totally agree!" If you post an opinon, expect some other opinions about the given topic. Some people may not present theirs in the best fashion but seriously, we all don't come on here thinking the same way.
