1. You get 4-8 charazcter slots, depending how many games you buy, Prohecies is the original, Factions and Nightfall are second and third chapters, each adds 2 character slots to your account). Try them all and find which you like the best.

2. No.

3. See above.

4. Stats for what? Armor, no. Weapons, depends if they are inscribable or not. Your personal attributes can ge changed at will in towns and outposts.

5. Learning what?

1) Depends what you want to do, really. There is no overall "best" class. A lot of new players choose Warrior/Monk though because it is an easy one to learn and more forgiving of mistakes.

2) No

3) Yes, The original Guild Wars was renamed Prophecies after Factions came out. It does not actually say that on the box though.

4) You can change them in any outpost/town

5) No idea what this means

1) As in profession? I'd say that depends per person...
2) No, they do not.
3) Yes, the original GW is called Prophecies.
4) If you mean attributes by stats then yes, you can while in an outpost/town.
5) I'm not good on a skateboard/snowboard.

I wouldn't worry about any of those things right now. Play pre-searing, choose whatever profession combination you like, play through Old Ascalon, and enjoy it. Learn the game a bit. Hardly anything you do in Guild Wars is permanent, your secondary profession can be changed later, your attributes and skill can be changed, runes can be overwritten, you can buy different sets or armour and weapons.

Until you know a bit more about the game, I wouldn't worry about these types of questions, just enjoy playing it and learning how everything works. You don't have to be the best as soon as you start playing.

2,4 These sound like questions from a Diablo (II) Player ..if not sorry (I've never played WoW so Diablo the first thing that came to mind) but it's interesting that they'd be the ones I'd ask too since I came from playing Diablo as my main RPG-like-type game...ish...thingy. Anyways,

2.) Rangers in this game have learned to make magic arrows out of their armour If you look closely they pull it out of an invisible quiver before they nock (sp) it. Though every time they fire it you can see the arrow angle away from the target before shooting towards it. (You do not need to aim, just target). In short, you do not need to buy arrows.

4.) The only permanent thing about your stats is your primary profession, which brings with it the primary attribute. Any attributes you have (including your primary attribute) you can modify the skill level to your hearts content, but only when you are not in a combat area, with some exceptions.

5.) Wiki is god.

Back on topic, if you need more information head over to GuildWiki. They have lot of useful information for beginners (in the top-right section of the first page) about the game, including mechanics, introductions, storylines, and useful acronyms you will see in the game. If you're in the game, you can ask ppl in the game any questions you may have. Ignore the people who call you a noob (n00b or any variations) and just listen to answers. Or if you want, go out and explore. There are no permanent penalties for dying (well, one but it's a title and you need not worry about it now, just get familiar with the game) and you will learn very quickly how to play the game. The only way for someone to learn how to swim is to get into the water. Guild wars has an excellent introduction system for beginners.

Oh, and if you do get the game, enjoy. If you get the first chapter (called Guild wars Prophecies or something like that) Here's one good tip. Any dyes you get, do not sell them for less than 100 gold each. They are worth more than the 1 gold you get from the merchant and there is a place later on in the game you can get more money for them.

I'll be around for a while, let me know if you need more help even when you have the game. A lot of it is exploring and very fun.

Cheers.

To OP:

1) If you meant professions, I'd say there isn't a specific combination which is good in PvE at all stages, however, there are certain combinations that are general enough to be used. GW is about constantly 'rebuilding' your character to suit different situations.

2) Nope, no arrows exist in the game. But there are different types of bows which behave differently.

3) Prophecies is simply known as Guild Wars in stores. That is the first chapter that was released.

4) Stats can be readjusted at will when your character is in towns/outposts, i.e. they are not fixed like in Diablo II. Even secondary professions can be changed and it works like 'unlocking'; when you 'unlocked' a secondary profession, you can change at will in towns/outposts and any skills you have acquired before will not be lost. Weapons can alos be modded and re-modded, GW isn't item-based so there aren't any uber items.

5) What's frontflip? :P

The "best" combination is one you enjoy playing most. You'll get 4 character slots that you can play around with, so when you get the game, read the literature that comes with it to get an idea of what each profession is about.

2) do rangers need to buy their arrows?
Nope. Arrows just appear out of thin air - unlimited supply. BOWS, on the other hand... You're given a starter bow, but after that you have to get 'em from drops or buy them.

Yes, it is.

Yes, this is one of the best features of GW, you can switch your stats and skills around to fit whatever situation your going into. This can only be done in towns.
