I am looking to create my main. I have already capped a Dervish and a Necromancer but right now I am looking to create the one with whom I shall do events, titles and what not.

I have been looking at different builds from warriors to rangers. I am not exactly sure what would make the best build for me.

With this build I am looking to do cartography as well as several other titles, PvE (mostly with heros and henchies), and PvP.

What profession should I be looking at? I really dont like playing the coookie cutter templates so I wouldnt mind experimenting with secondaries.

So far in my search a warrior seams to be the way to go. They have decent damage, good armor, nice HP, and good run buffs.

Any other opinions?

Rangers are also good, as they can manipulate others into playing their game. IE: turn all attacks into cold, so wear armor that boosts up defense vs cold. Thus, you'll have better defense than a warrior. Traps can cripple and almost kill people regardless of their defenses.

Necromancers are also a wonderful choice. Both defensive and offensive capabilities make you a well-rounded type of character. Monks more focus on defensive, Warriors, Rangers, Elementalists, Assassins, and Mesmers tend to focus more on offensive tactics. Elementalists also have good defenses, but their healing leaves much to be desired.

Paragons and Dervish seem good choices too, but I really don't know much about them.

I've looked at the Dervish a bit and it seems that they can run quite well, especially with a Mesmer secondary. Enchantments like Illusionary Weakness and Illusion of Haste are great for a Dervish. Especially since IoH recharges in 5 seconds and can last a long time (like 17 seconds + Mantra of Persistence).

Personally, I still like a Necromancer primary.

Hope this helps a bit.

If you don't like cookie cutter builds, mesmer is perfect. There are none!

I would say play the one you really like to play.
I have a character for each profession (except assassin) and like to play them all.
The one I do titles and such with is the Mesmer.
Just find the one you really like.

My main has always been a monk. It just fits my playstyle and it's a very versatile class. I've played all the classes except dervish through at least one campaign, and they all have different qualities to recommend them. At the end of the day, though, I'm always a monk at heart.

What's wrong with using either your Dervish or Necromancer to get all the titles? You're already in progress for some of the titles, but you want to start anew?

Warriors can solo, and are found in most parties.

Rangers really work best with other rangers (and a necro in the back for orders, br, or mm abilities) Late game there isn't as big a call for them in balanced groups.

Dervishes, Forget it. A good class, but overplayed. do yourself and everyone a favor by not playing it.

Paragon - Underrated. I'd recomend considering it, but not as your main character.

Necro - A great class, There are ALOT of cookie-cutter builds for them though so you won't have much time for improvisation.

Mesmer - Most underrated class in the game. You won't get the glory, but you'll be effective. I've been wanting to try one for awhile. They are one of the hardest classes to play.

Elementist - fiarly straightfoward, but still a bit hard. I personally like the water line as its not used much.

Monk - If you play this and want to be orginal, play a smiter.

assassin - a VERY hard class to play well, but VERY rewarding.
ritualist- never got into them much, good for AB.

There are so many things wrong with this thread...

1) there are "cookie cutter" builds for every class, including mesmer (standard domination tempate in pvp, or standard illusion template)

1a) the reason cookie cutters are good for you to play is because you, as a player, are not very good. There are 3 major gamer archetypes--the johnny, the timmy, and the Spike. The good guild wars players are "spikes" because they play the game competitively (i.e. Pvp) so they don't want to deal with scrubbiness. If you don't like cookie cutters, use heroes and move on, but don't expect to get into good groups with a crap bar.

2) At the original poster: just play around and experiment to get a niche for what you like. Try some RA, or just remake characters if you realize you don't like them.

3) What angel said.

4) winter is generally terrible, but rangers do have some things going for them, namely barrage, and interrupts (at least on the pve end).

Thanks for the responses so far. Although I do have two capped character so far they arent the main hero of the pack. I love to roleplay and even though those characters are fun to play I dont personally see myself being one of them. I see them being more so allies and friends of my main. In game terms does it really matter? I would say not but its the way I want to play the game

Anyway I think I have narrowed my search down to two possibilities; a warrior and a ranger.

Last night played Hero pvp (or whatever its called) It was pretty fun. I was a ranger and during this run and got mixed results. Since I dot have alot in the lines of PvP I guess it could only get better. I went up against a MM in a group and in the end I lost when I was overwhelmed with minions.

Any ideas on a good supporter for hero battles?

Yea I know... I am looking for a jack of all trades. I want variety

If you are looking primarilly at PVE titles, then you can't go far wrong with a Ranger primary. The majority of the high level PVE titles, especially cartography were first achieved by Ranger primaries. My own Ranger has 7 maxed PVE titles.

Rangers are not wonderful at anything in particular, but they are versatile enough to do just about everything reasonably well and many secondary profession skills of all classes mesh nicely with a Ranger primary.

Just my opinions as always :-)
