Yes, this is an old, old issue. What it boils down to is that no matter how much storage Anet provides, people will fill it up and want more.

Maybe Anet could figure out a tabbing feature that would allow one character to access another character's backpack, etc. of the same account while in a town or outpost. This would make "mules" a more viable storage alternative. Actually, Anet may even have players buying more characters to just to use as mules if this were implemented.

Which clearly shows they wouldn't do it for the community rather than for the money they get.
Sorry but the cry for more storage will only increase as motre chapters appear.

definetly, more storage is needed...
but make it simple: whoever wants it and has ingame-money, just buy extra space from the Xunlay agent. and the space gets more expensive, as well as it is with the skills. simple as that!

Hmmmm...I could as easily call you ignorant if you can't manage your inventory with the number of slots already provided for your character!!!! I could also call you ignorant for not recognizing that more storage per player means a much larger player database and more cost for Anet, therefore why shouldn't they make some money as compensation? Perhaps you should check out decaf.

why do you care? i thought this forum is about what we need and what would make us happyer with the game. i don't get it! why would anyone care about the costs for ANet? if they decide it's a good/cheap/viable idea, they will use it. if not - no storage and that's it! i do understand a "no, no extra storage coz ppl will farm more" or something like this, but i don't understand why saying: "no extra storage coz poor ANet will have extra costs" or something...

Why don't you give some seminars about effective storage use then, instead of making remarks about how people should learn to use theirs.

I myself don't have storage problems but i can understand if a mass of people ask for it that the reason is valid, so i support them in that.

Ever wondered why stacks are limited to being 250 in quantity?
I'm guessing it's something to do with 256 being the number of possible bit combinations in one Byte of information.
What I'm saying is that I wouldn't be surprised if each storage slot only occupied 1 Byte of information on disk. If I was to be generous to ANet, I'd go way over the top and say that each slot required 1 KiloByte of information, resulting in a whopping 16KB of storage per account.
With approximately 3 million users, that equals a MASSIVE total of... 45-46GB of storage.
So to double everyone's storage would require 90-92GB.

Remember, that's me being GENEROUS with the figures too.
If we were more realistic and said that each storage slot occupied 2Bytes of information, you're looking at 32Bytes of information per account.
For 3 million accounts, that's 93,750KB or 91.5MB.

Don't make the argument that it would require ANet to invest in a whole new server farm before you've actually crunched some numbers.

The irst camaping grants you 4 slots. 20/4=5 slots per character.

Done. Making the storage 5 storage slots per character slot owned would fix the issue. You can't remove the character slots, so no problema about that.

Paying for an additional campaing wpuld grant 10 more lots (2 characters) and those whi pay for more sots would have more storage, one more great reason to buy them.

I think they should have a dye tab in the vault, the materials tab is great, but sadly not enough to stop everyones storage problems. What I have done is to create 2 mule characters, keep a database of what they have on them, and also use them to sell the stuff later when the prices go up. Using this method I have been able to keep my vault box pretty empty, and haven't had many problems with running out of space.

I kind of thought along the same lines initially as well but after a little more thought:

1byte can only contain the quantity of an item (assuming it stacks 0-255)
As there are more than 255 different items in the game AT LEAST 2 other bytes are requires for an identification for the item type.

Further bytes would be required for all the item attributes - mods - colour etc

So a more realistic figure would be maybe 32bytes per item slot (certainly not per account) - per character.

I'm not going to do the remaining math but 32 multiply by ? backpack slots multiply by the number of characters on an account multiply by 3,000,000 accounts - Add - 32 multiply ? storage account slots.....

and the number does become quite significant - however.........

What is really annoying, is despite Gaile's post that 'things are much more complicated than just adding server storage' recently - is that there is no explaination as to why storage space cannot be increased despite VERY frequent requests.

Some sort of explaination would go a long way to help stopping the constant requests for storage upgrades.

Factions already gave you exclusive material storage (for a time at least) and I really don't see any reason for further discrimination. More storage is always nice but I can't sign this.

Anet - Nc Soft subscriber income should be more than enough to handle some additional storage. So please no more agreeing with the idea that they will suffer to provide an easy and much needed change to storage. [3mil buyers x ~50 Euro = more than enough].

Extra storage should come free with an expansion (as happened with Factions, or with in-game credits - I do not support paying real $ for a solution. If Anet need to make it hard to get, then pay for it with a hard to get reward. Just don't make it an end game reward lol

Some ideas -----

Provide a collector item tab in Xunlai - stackable so less bytes, and shareable between characters, so no more hunting for the lost pulsating growth.

Give each Hero (for each character) a bag/pouch - just enough for some weapon and rune choices. Its really painfull keeping role kit for all the heros in your own chars limited slots

Give the vault an extra page of slots if 5 characters "hand in" 5 x a one time only reward. Make the reward based somehow on character progression or something related to how often or well used the character is. Much like the titles. For eg, if 5 chars each have a first level title. [And no, I don't mean 5 characters with kind of a big deal !! ]

This way its part of the story, and you get one more page for each 5 active characters. ie mules or less used characters wont get the reward.

Yes this last idea does reward the active multiple campaign owners, but if you only have 4 chars and one campaign then you probably dont need more storage any way.

heh i use an excel spreadhsheet to keep track of items on the 36 characters i have.

Um, have any of you people visited the official GW site lately? If you go to the webpage that has all the info about wintersday 2006, and scroll down to the bottom where it will tell you about the headgear, you will find one very significant line of text - Even better, you will have a new way to store it.

People who buy more Campagins are the ones that need more storage the most. More campagins owned means access to lots and lots of items and armor sets from all of them. Loyal customers should be rewarded. They also deserve it more as they paid more.
The amount of storage for 1 campagin is small but when you have all 3 and still have the same storage, it's getting ridiculous.

Special Rewards: In the tradition of the season, you'll receive special headgear during the Wintersday finale. And even better, you'll get a new means of storing it, as well.
