First off...."mastering" the game isn't easy. Its not something that you'll learn in 10 days. The more you play, the more you'll learn. Because Guild Wars is an online game, it is always changing so once you think you have "mastered" it, things might change and you'll have to adjust. ANet does a pretty good job on teaching newer players the various basics and has areas designated for them in the PvE portion of the game. If you are more into PvP, I still would recommend jumping into the PvE scene first where you can at least get a feel of the game, get comfortable with your character and skills. If you study the various types of skills, you'll get an idea on what they are helpful for/against and how to put together a decent build. Again, it takes time. There are also a lot of friendly people in the game that are more than willing to help out, especially guildies. Everyone starts new at one point or another.
As far as how to get to the Shing Jea Monastary...to get there you must have Guild Wars: Factions. If you just have the original Guild Wars (Prophecies) or Guild Wars: Nightfall, you won't be able to access it unless you purchase Factions. If you DO have Factions, its the place where your Canthan born characters start.
Now, if you have a Prophecies character (and have Factions), you'll first have to get to Lions Arch in Tyria. Once there, there is a person who take a quest from and once completed you will arrive in Kaineng Center. Once in Kaineng Center, there is a quest you can take in Kaineng Center (First Mate Xiang which is located at the Docks) that will allow you to access Seitung Harbor (which is located on Shing Jea Island). Once you are at Seitung Harbor, you can run/fight/walk to Shing Jea Monastary.
On the other hand if you have an Elonian character (and have Factions), you'll have to talk to Funwa Shento in Kamadan after completing the War Preparations quest. Again, it will take you to Kaineng Center. Do the same thing as above (talk to First mate Xiang, yadda, yadda) and you'll eventually get to Shing Jea.
I also recommend to take the time to hear what NPCS as well as other people have to say. You can learn a lot from that.
There are a lot of great useful GW sites that offer very valuable information that you want want to take a look at and also bookmark the site. Two of the best are

Which game do you have? Shing Jea is a town in Factions, is that the one you have?
You can only adventure in the continents for the chapters included in your account:
Prophecies (original GW) = Tyria
Factions = Cantha
Nightfall = Elona.

My best advice is to just play through the game and learn by trial and error. I believe you'll "get it" a lot faster if you try for yourself rather than having someone tell you what you need to learn. In the end, if you continue playing, it'll all come to you. Get acquainted with the GuildWiki, it's a great help, but don't get the bad habit of looking up everything all the time. Just like with maths in school, you'll learn better from trying rather than seeing the list of correct answers.

Guildwiki is your friend!
Also people on guru are great at answering questions so if you are specific about what you need to know, you won't have to wait very long for help.

Oops, forgot to say: join a guild.
If you join a guild with helpful, friendly players then you will have lots of support as you get to know the game better.
