If this is indeed the one, then both choices are bad. For that group, you just cross the bridge till they start moving, then move back and out of their way. You wait for them to kill the two guards, then wait till they engage the guards at the Senji's corner portal. That's when you flank them from behind, while the boss throws his insanely hard hitting attacks at the NPCs.

If this is some other mob you had in mind, then it entirely depends on the situation.

I *fully* agree with countesscorpula, the question of tactix is essentially immaterial.
