I'm proud to say that I've cleared the Stygian Veil, probably the hardest thing I've ever done in GW so far. (I heard it's the easiest though :[)
My stupid story, read and enjoy.

My story goes a little like this:

My Ranger/Monk decides to join a random trapper PUG for Stygian Veil, and knowing that I had a bit of time before sleep I decided to join. So my party, 6 trappers, a healer, and a 55/BiP Necro load the zone and start laying down our traps for about ~1.5 hours for the first part where we:

1. Defeat the approaching demon hordes.

So after 21 mobs of Stygian Oversized Fiends, most of the trappers are at 45% dp, but we press on. Then on part two:

2.Destroy the Demon Underlords to release the magical binds placed on the entrance to the spawning tunnels. X of 2 Demon underlords remain.

We start pulling groups down the hills where the mobs are guarding the underlords, and this takes about 30 minutes per boss=1 hour on this part. Soon after this, my eyes are already hurting (it's about 8:00), but then my PUG decides to do the next step which is "Brood War", where we have to kill4 big stygian bosses. First step is to open a passage way through the tunnel to enter the "nest" of the stygian lords.
My leader had some experience doing this before, and warns us that there will be poppers, so we trap ahead of time at the entrance. I start pulling the poppers, but we get a lag spike, so a huge amount of Stygian Do-Badders start killing us all, and only our necro is left. Power to Rebirth!
We manage to regroup but for some odd reason, the mobs don't reset and start chasing us around the map for 15 minutes. After that near wipe, we manage to get into the tunnels without any more deaths. We clear out a bunch of mobs guarding the monk boss, and after he triggered all our traps, he lived through them with 1/10 his hp left, and he Signet of Judgment-ed us, killing almost all of us (We had ~60 dp=~198 hp). So we rebirth and rape him, the ele boss, the necro boss, and the last one, which takes about 1.5 hours.
I'm thinking "Yay! Done!" but nope! Still gotta kill the dreadspawn maw!

3. Killing the Giant Toothy Saarlaac Mouth

6 Smoldering Tendrils. Each killed Smoldering Tendril spawns a huge mob of stygians and torment claws. What does this mean? Lots and lots of mindless trapping! After another 2 hours of incredibly difficult and near wipe situations, we finally beat the mission.

I'm sorry if this story was really boring to read but this was the most dreadful GW experience I've ever had. My eyes were hurting after staring at the screen for literally SEVEN HOURS ~7:00pm-2:00 am

All I can say is: Seven hours and no quitters. I know you're jealous.

/cry and goodnight

Here's a more interesting story.
me as r/mo trapper.... 1 obsidian flesh tank, don remember exact no. of monks, mesmers and eles... but yah. Cleared first part of spawns in a maximum of 45 -60 mins... killed underlords.. next part took a bit and we were nearly wiped out... but a couple made it and rebirthed everyone. the four bosses took a maximum of 60 mins as well... the tendrils took 20 mins at most... the best part = my GW bugged at the 4th tendril... i could see my desktop, alt-tab screen, and a flcikering guild wars pointer. No game... funny thing is... pressing the number keys activated skills... so team led me to chest through keyboard. Blind fun! excellent team... took a little less than 3 hours.

There's no need to trap this place to beat it. Rangers shouldn't have a hard time getting in regular groups, which can clear this place in 2-3 hours currently, but could probably be done in 1-2 hours with an experienced group. Rangers are used for EoE and Symbiosis (can get the tanks health to around 2,000 for those pesky groups of Hungers). I would definitely suggest trying that over trapping the place again.

Or you can have a solidly organized group and do it in 2.5 hours.

Gratz on doing it, i hate to spoil it, but i have too. This is not the best PUG ever.

I was in the best PUG ever last night. We beat the mission in under 3 hours. We all died a few times but not up to 60% dp and we had a GREAT teamleader. She really knew the way, knew what to do, where to do it, etc...

THANKS AGAIN LYANA KYJA !!! We could not have done it without you.

And here comes the incredible part:

We where 8 R/Mo trappers.

Thats right, no monk, no bip, just 8 trappers.

I have to be completly honnest and say that we where all seasoned trappers, most of us spend half there lifetime trapping UW and so.

But nevertheless, i am glad for you that you beaten it. I know how hard it is to get a good PUG in DoA. It went from 10 full districts to 1 or 2 at best. People are giving up because its so hard and the more people that give up, the harder it will become to find a good PUG. And people like myself who are in a small casual guild will in the end have no change of completing all the 4 parts of the quest.

Good job spoiling the parade guys. I haven't done these missions myself, but having been through the other elite missions I can say that length of time > quality of team as long as you're having fun. 5 hours with a PUG that has a great sense of humor *and* is half decent can be a lot of fun vs. a PUG that is completely dry and does it in a third of the time.
