If anything, it will introduce even more waves of immatuiry to the game populous.
I totally agree with Faer on this one. What would stop their mothers from buying it anyway? And it always seems that the gorier a game is, the more immature the young ones on it seem to be.

Seems to make the game more detailed but I'm pretty sure that's going to impact the current censorship rating of the game.

Diablo 2 Had blood. Actually you kind of forgot about it after awhile. You Slaughter a Fallen or one of those Horned guys in act 1 and they just Spurted blood left and right, but then you did it enough times that you stopped noticing.

I would love to see this for 1 reason. The Searing Video. Right now it doesnt look like much, but if they added some heavy duty carnage, it would fit the storyline better. And it would make the charr seem more like the "Evil Beasts" their supposed to be.

I like the game the way it is, but this is one more tweak that would make it better.

BTW...i claim no affiliation with this man^

Battlefield 1942 had blood and a teen rating. A lot of shooting games do actually. Why do people think blood is so bad? Squirting and oozing out would be disgusting, but come on... do you really expect to be sliced up by a sword without a single visible scratch?

With the option to toggle the gore, of course.

I love Guild Wars, its a great game, but I'd really like to see blood flying. When a meathead fighter draws a line across somethings chest, I'd like for a line of blood drawn across the snow.

As for blood and kids, I really doubt it has any effect. I played games like Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, and Doom when I was a kid and those games were as gory as they came, and I turned out just fine.

I dont know about the rules where you guys live, but up in Canada, I've gone to the theatre and watched some pretty gory movies that definitely needed to be R, but were 18A or even 14A. Something like Underworld Evolution comes to mind, which was only 18A. 18A in Canada doesn't mean anything, they don't ID, and the theatre was packed with kids to the point of annoyance because of their antics.

Point I'm making: Doesn't matter what is done, kids are going to access violence. Not that Guild Wars seems overpopulated with people under 13, Im assuming that the vast majority of the Guild Wars community is in their teens. They have the internet. They watch porn. Believe me.

Adding a bit of red to Guild Wars is completely harmless and should be done.

And for anyone saying it will just add to the clutter, get a better processor.

I'd like to see a little blood spray when slicing away at stuff with my melee chara, just for realism's sake. But buckets of gore and carnage? GW doesn't need that, it's way too far over the top.

Poison and Disease are kinda realistic, a green cloud or trail of pestilence (having a character vomit while ill would be a bit much). Cripple makes you limp. Deep Wound makes your max health drop. Bleeding... just another cloud, but red instead of green. It doesn't look right to me, there should be some seepage and drips on the ground.

Just make it togglable.

Why add blood? GW isn't a shooting game, so I don't see the real need for it. And GW is rated T, not M.

It's absolutely not necessary. A change like that would cause the ESRB rating to be higher (or would it? it's already rated T...), which would cause overly conservative parents to freak out.

On one hand, any improvement to graphics or animation would be a good thing, but there are plenty of other things to add/improve aside from blood.

It would alientate a large section of its intended audience.

I.E young children.

If you consider how many creatures you can kill in one mission in a confined space. Then combined with blood effects and then consider that people can play this game for hours on end.

It could have some rather damaging effects on small children.

If a game which is played world wide by thousands of people, was to suddenly add blood effects, its would hit the media within minutes. You would have the news and radio and megazines ranting about how irresponsible Anet was at introducing such a violent aspect to a game played by children.

And they'd be right.

The almost "nicey nice" feel of the game would be replaced with something alot darker. I personally dont think GWs needs it.

However if such a thing was to be introduced, they should allow for parental control and an age check against your sign up details.

Only allow it for over 18.

that's the quote I was looking for!

This would raise the rating to either M(15+).... or if Anet go crazy with the addition of blood, the worst that can happen is an R16, but it wont go to R18, you need more than blood for an R18 rating to happen.

no need for blood, we have enough of those.... games.... already, A good clean game is what keeps both young and elderly players... able to play this game.

Good way of putting it. It's how I feel about playing this game, as I've always been turned off (unless say it's Mortal Kombat, I do admit..) by games that involve blood, even if Guildwars is meant to be fantasy-real, we still don't need blood in it.

lol i played GTA when i was 11 or 12 and i was fine. Hell, it was a fun Game. If GW was to add Blood (and They Should) its not GW main Responsibility to keep kids away. Its the Parents.

If some parent tries to Sue Anet for having blood in the game, Anet can simply say why did you buy it then for your kid. And its not like one day POOF, blood. they'd let out a press Release and that would give time for anybody who cant handle blood, or is Too young, etc, to be sent off.

oh plz give me gore, its the thing i miss most on this game the one that makes you real into the killin, what more stimulating than see your oponent blood all over the place and his pieces on the floor, the burned flesh, and all the corpse exlosions leaving pools of blood.
i loved this about diablo and i would love it here, all people here seem to have a moral problem about it as if they were from the ncsoft shareholders, to hell with little kids and the censorship, this would make the game much more beautyfull

/signed again for more gore !!!

I don't see why you people are saying Guild Wars will be rated 18+ for blood. A little animated blood will not turn a game to 18+. Many T games have blood in it. Personally, I wouldn't mind a little blood. And yes, I think they should add it.

Ark, your nuts.

ANET would rather avoid people saying "OMG THERE IS BLOOD IN THERE! IT'S AN ADULT GAME! MAKE IT RATED M OR I'LL SUE YOU!". They would rather keep that horrendous M or T off and keep it where it is at.

ANET would also loose a fair amount world-wide audiences. Who is to say Joe and Mary who allow their sons and daughters to play this game because it's one of the few games that doesn't involve blood. As soon as it does, Joe and Mary take this game away from their kids and ANET looses players.

Guildwars is one of those few, few games that are excellent with out having to be like these other games and involve blood and gore for the fantasy-real effect that it presents. Should it change, they'd be just in the same category as the others...

I want my warrior to be able to bite the heads off the trolls she just killed... *sarcasm*

Gore = more graphics
more graphics = more lag
more lag = more complaints

Really quite a simple technical reason.

Also, even if the game's rating was raised to 18+ there would still be kids 10 and under playing the game. Why? Because some parents will buy anything for their child.

Blood is unnessisary in a game like Guild Wars. Sure you are slashing people with a sharp sword/axe/daggers/scythe, but that's why this is a game, it's not real. If you really think about it, more of the weapons and armour would be highly impractical in reality, but this is a game, so they can have them.
