Catch 22

I was looking at team builds on wiki and came across a build that might be better off with a ritualist. The concensus from the wiki users was to make the build without a rit so it would be PUG friendly. Meaning they didn't want a rit in the build, because rits were not that popular.
You see where I'm going?! This is a catch 22, and I'm a bit depressed. How do you get more rit activity in the game if teams builds will be shunned for having a class that is not played that much.

Anyone out there know where to begin to make rits more PUG friendly? The only thing I can think of is developing very powerful solo PVE builds and hope that the profession becomes popular enough that having a team build with a ritualist isn't frowned upon.

I think you are calling for a reeducation of the player bases, redfeather. My primary character is a ritualist, and I rarely have any problems fitting into pug builds- once they realize i can fill any niche they need: mm, ranger, 2ndary warrior, healer, or spirit channeler, etc.

Every so often, my rit does receive some "racism" from monks mainly when she joins a team. But other than that most of the teams I join praise my rit for surprising them with her abilities. There has been several times when a pair of rits in a pug has controlled the battlefield and saved the entire team from annihilation. (those are the times I play the rit for).

Slowly through the efforts of all of us ritualist players, the player base will learn how useful the ritualist can be. You now see teams calling for mesmers in many mission areas thanks to the similar efforts of the mesmer players.

Just keep playing your ritualist and learn the class well. The rest will come around in time.

Hi Calen. I'm not going to give up on playing a ritualist.
I think I'm going to start taking part in more Team Build discussions, and try to find ones where a ritualist would really be advantageous. Then I can suggest that at the bottom of the wiki page an optional profession tag can be added. It would give the build a better chance of being filled out by a PUG and maybe, just maybe a few more people will play ritualists because they see more Team Builds for places like DOA, UW and the like, on the wiki and it inspires them!
I'm not giving up!

I am glad you are not giving up. I found the ritualist to be the most fun class for me to play after trying all of them.

I used to Ritual Lord for Urgoz's Warren and for some guilty pleasure at THK. I have to admit that after the nerf its hard to get my rit into any of the elite areas now except perhaps as a restorationalist. The ritual lord build wasnt overpowered for the elite missions although it was for everything else.

The problem with the ritualist is the synergy issue. A pair of ritualists are extremely powerful together if they play off each other's skills. A ritualist can synergize with the other classes but to a lesser extent. They can also interfere with those classes as well, however. I try my best to be careful when a ranger has spirits down or there is an MM in the team.

I have to admit that I did wipe out many a minion army or ranger build thanks to my lack of understanding of the rit when I was new to the class. I now try to help new rits avoid some of the mistakes I made .

As a ritualist, I have been requested to play with spirits and even had the team wait until they were up before the enemies were pulled to the spirit line. I have also been requested to hold areas in certain missions alone while the team finished a bonus or other objective. So there is hope out there for pugs and ritualists.

It was a minion bomber build Xin. I didn't see any team builds with a ritualist besides 2 and I thought that a ritualist would definitely be a nice choice for that 1.

The catch 22 part is a term for a type of conflict.
The most popular example is being unable to get any job because you don't have work experience, and in order to get work experience you need to get a job.
But I have a feeling you know this and are making fun of my title!

When I left the page and came back and reread it. I kinda see their point about not putting a ritualist in because it's a build idea for Nightfall. I still suggested that ritualist should be included as an option, just in case lots of people look at those builds, I was hoping that they'll see that ritualists can fit nicely into many of them.

I really don't have a problem fitting into PuGs as a restorationalist, but there are still plenty of times when groups are shouting for a healer, and invite myself and get rejected. Sometimes after I talk to someone in the group I get in, because sometimes people don't really understand what a ritualist can do. But sometimes, people are just so focused on having a monk that they look rits over.

It's silly now. I've posted a suggestion and video into that build that makes me believe that the entire build should be restoration/spawning/death spec'd Rt/Ns!

I have an easy time getting into gruops as rit. Most new players to nightfall are like wtf are you?

I even had someone ask me if i was an Elite class! To which i promptly replyed yes.

The ritualist can fill ANY role what soever with the proper gear and skills.
Its a fun class to play. I only wish Anet would make it more synergetic with other classes in PvP.

Pugs, to make a generalisation are pretty clueless about most things...
