GuildWars is a RIP OFF from Dungeon Siege?
Condor San
Do a comparsion between those two game with the established date on wikipedia. Both games used the famous song composer Jeremy Soule.
I realized this when i played Dungeon Siege 2 last night (which was 10x better then GW in single player mode with interesting story modes that use 99% professional voice acting, sophisticate obedient henchmens, kick ass casting animation with cool effect that has this gruesome fatality animation to each mob you slain.)
Heres the proof that GuildWars is a rip off from Dungeon Siege series. or AM I mistaken?

They use the same music composer so they are related? Do you know how many games he has done the music for?
I see absolutely no similarity between the two games. Have you even played GW?

Thanks for the laugh.

I hope you didn't intend for this thread to be taken seriously, because it won't be.
Scutilla
Yeah, Jeremy Soule's done the music for a LOT of games. I've played Dungeon Siege, and beyond the fact that they're both action-oriented RPGs, there's not much similarity between the two.
Navaros
Wikipedia is not and never will be a credible source of information therefore it cannot ever offer "proof" of anything.

What a dumb joke. It is a joke, right?

and Dungeon Siege is rip off from Diablo. End of story

why register on a guild wars forum and complaining about a sprite looking rpg being better than gw.
bug_out
Jeremy Soule did the music for Neverwinter Nights, Total Annihilation, Icewind Dale... and a ton of other MUST HAVE game music.
I can make comparisons about GW and PnP D&D... big deal.
In other words: Thank you, drive through.

Heh, the other way around.
First, there was Rogue.
Rogue was adapted by Usenet community, and it spawned Nethack.
Blizzard did a though experiment "How would we do Nethack today", and Diablo was launched.
With tremendous success, Diablo influenced the genre. One of the few successful followups was made by a startup Gas Powered Games, which used Diablo design, but added some twists, like NPC team members and seamless transition between areas without loading.
Then came Diablo 2, along with Battlenet.
Work on World of Warcraft begins. Designers come into conflict over gameplay. One side argues for grind and time based model, taken straight from Everquest (they even bring in EQ designers), the other side argues with skill based aproach.
As a followup, Jeff (author of BattleNet) leaves Blizzard to found Arena Net.
During the next ~5 years, GW is developed.
And the rest, is history.
On a personal note, I've found Dungeon Siege so boring, I never finished it. Completely mindless slaughter of unchallenging mobs. Which reminds me why I no longer play single-player games.
But overall, DS is simply a game that met short success due to Diablo hype, but couldn't live up to Blizzards standards, hence the expansion and sequel turned out as quite mediocre, more of the same, no substance games. The genre at that time was exhausted, and true online was the way to go. DS is just an example of genre overspecialization.
Additionally, when DS launched, it was hyped as "true Diablo sequel", until D2 added some necessary patches, and let DS in the dust with regards to replayability, features, and depth. DS sequels and addons never could repeat the success of initial version, and DS genre remained it's own niche market that never evolved adequately to become a major contender.

Dungeon Siege has an unlockable bonus level called Chicken World (see Cow Level of Diablo II) . You need three items to achieve this: the newbie knife (your first weapon), the fury eye (can be found in water caverns) and the trial of gallus book (which is in the town of Hiroth, obtained after placing all the town stones on the platforms). Then, start/join a multiplayer game on the map Utraean Peninsula. Choose the town of Quillrabe to start in. |

lol of course I play GW, played it since ob/cb when Skill Charms was widely used, or the famous event where NON able to find a counter to Warrior monk aka the Paladin which noobs keep making post on GW fansite forum saying they're overpower.
I only got Prophecy, knowing Faction would be a dissapointment and Nightfall is no different than Prophecies clone (like the starter beginning newbie map, it just facing the opposite direction from Prophecy) GW is to boring for my taste imho)
BTW This post isn't about hurting GW fanboi feelings. my bad if you feel that way.
anway.. gonna go back to BF2142 a real PVP games. Or dungeon siege 2 if i wanna do some exciting PVE stuff lol. This feel great getting off my chest

To the OP, is your thread title a statement or a question? I only ask because you have a question mark at the end yet the syntax is that of a statement.

well dungeon siege is rip off of
And Condor San, I love how you make rash judgements about prophecies and factions right after you state that you have yet to play either.
You started this to bait people and you know it.

Mods. You might as well just ban Condor now. I just realized he's the same Condor from other forums with his broken english and trolling ways. He basically posts on forums trying to rile people up.

Aparrently someone has not done much in fact finding. Take a look around and see how many RPG's there are out there then post on which ones rip the ohers off. Yes there will be similiarities between them. COming up with something new is hard and the old formula's that have been used in the past still work now. Having played a rather large number of RPG's through the years, I would like to see something new myself. But digitizing yourself and actualy going into a game-world at this time is quite impossible. Just enjoy the game for what it is, FUN.

The fact remains, different companies, different people means even if a game looks completely alike, the gameplay, game dynamics, game physics, game design and damn near EVERY other feature will be different from eachother...
You my friend might as well scream at the guy that classified Oranges and Apples as DIFFERENT (zOMG) fruits. And then you can provide the proof that they are the same fruit cause they are both ROUND! WOW, stupid? Very much so, and that my friend is how you sound. Sorry its the truth.
LOL!!! cheers.
Count to Potato
Funny.... and who cares? obviusly dungeon seige creators don't see the rip off or else Anet and NCsoft would have been sued
Clawdius_Talonious
Yeah, it sure is! I remember first thinking to myself "Wow, I get to watch my character fight NPCs controlled completely by his AI, and have a Donkey NPC which has a ton of storage follow me around, and don't have to worry about pesky things like attribute placement because the game will do all of that for me"! But wait, that wasn't what I thought before Guild Wars came out, it was what I thought before Dungeon Siege came out, which is of course a Diablo rip off if anything is. Except for the whole skill alotment concept, which Dungeon Siege forwent in favor of increasing attributes by using them. And of course Diablo is a ripoff of me, it is in fact my life story, I go around slaying the minions of hell and various undead and Blizzard obviously stole my story and put it into their game.
So, Guild Wars is to Dungeon Siege as Diablo is to my life story. That is to say, they have very little in common besides the delusions of madmen.

Judging by that screenshot, Dungeon siege looks more like age of empires 3 than Guild wars

Every RPG is a rip off of every previous RPG...
They just change/add some features and rename some classes.
But the same "ripoff" argument can be said about anything.

Oh one more things... OMG a game with gibs. It's not like I haven't been watching things explode into large amounts of gibs since Quake. Personally when I watch someone swing a sword through a mob and it explodes I'm really disappointed. I would make rather see the two halves fall apart!

Guild Wars is a rip-off of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers coz the game got rangers.
